Problem getting Dish 129 signal

Recommended Posts

I have a Dish Tailgater, in Colorado. It goes thru all the set up just fine. But the signal on Sat 129 is too weak to use.

The other 2 sats are fine. I called Dish and had my service location changed, get locals in HD fine, Other folks in the RV park are getting Sat 129.

I have moved the Tailgater 3 times. Have taken the top off the Tailgater and watched it move to the 3 sat locations.

Tomorrow going to move it again. Any thoughts welcome

129 seems to be an issue with King products. I have an in motion dome and can watch the signal strength be sufficient and then watch the dome drift off. Call King. There may be adjustments you can make to your antenna. They gave me adjustments for mine.

129 is the farthest west and the lowest on the horizon. Make sure the dish has a good view of the sky for that satellite.

Also be sure that none of your F connectors will twist on the coax and be sure you are running RG6 or better coax. It does make a difference in marginal conditions to use a 7/16" wrench to snug all connectors. If you have any joints in the line inside, might be worth checking them for these things, too.

I finally got a 1000.4 dish because of 129 being such an intermittent issue no matter where I was. If you have the setup option, try using transponders above 21 on sat 129. I have found that 110 likes 11-16, 119 likes 16-21 and 129 likes above transponder 21. Just my experiences.

What locals are you getting? Colorado locals in HD are on 129, so if you're getting all the locals in HD you must be getting 129. There are a handful of HD locals on 119, but they are limited.

Ok, I'll rephrase this. I am in Gunnison. Locals are out of Denver. NBC ch 4 comes in great, it is on 129. Fox News is on 129. It is not coming in. SD only. Makes no sense to me.

Anyway, moved the Tailgater to top of one of the slides, now get Fox in HD.

That is what was not making sense to me. I can get part of the stations on 129, just not all of them. Maybe it has something to do with the transponder Fox is on?

Thanks Jim

Yep, that can make a big diff. For example, in my current California campground, most of my 129 HD stations have signal strength in the 40s, but my locals (also on 129) are in the 20s.

After moving the Tailgater to the slide top, Fox was in HD. This morning Fox is only SD. It is on Sat 129, transponder 28. O'well, guess it is what it is???

Thanks, Jim

I'm not a guru on this subject and am not disputing you. However, if you are receiving your local Fox station on Sat 129, then you are receiving the HD version of that station. Dish does not furnish the Denver Fox station in SD on Sat 129. How are you determining which transponder you are receiving it on? Here is the Denver line up http://www.satelliteguys.us/thelist/index.php?search=dnall⊂=true&market=Denver,%20CO

Is it possible that you are receiving the station in HD, but that the program is in SD? Even though a station may broadcast in HD doesn't mean that all it's programming is in HD. Just a thought.

While you are in range of the spot beam from Denver: you may get better reception by changing to Grand Junction's spot beam: http://www.satelliteguys.us/thelist/index.php?search=dnall⊂=true&sort=&order=&beamMap=E10_SB34.jpg

OK, Thanks everyone. The Fox channel i refer to is 205. It is available in both HD and SD. If I tune to 205HD it will say the signal is too week, switching to 205SD and then i can get Fox News in SD. Guess I am just on the fringe of a good signal.

I am now in Branson, will go back to Gunnison next summer, will try again. The Denver Locals come in great in HD, just the Fox News Channel on 129 won't come in.

Thanks Jim

Satellite 129 is far to the right and lower in the horizon. Very easy for trees and other obstructions to get in the way of the beam, things you would not expect to be in the way.
