  1. Also something that's important, especially in our case, is that when we went full time we were debt free. The only bills we have are for healthcare, long term care, insurances(Car & MH), and cell phone. That was our plan when we hit the road over 5yrs. ago, so we would have plenty of flexibility to do just about anything we might want to do. And I must say it's worked out great. Although sadly it's coming to an end since we're having a home built here in S.C. so we can do some overseas travel before we get too old & decrepit. But it's been a great ride, and I wouldn't change a thing.
  2. I agree with 2gypsies. You'll be fine. In over 5yrs. we've never gone over $35K.
  3. When I saw the mention of clothes I had to snicker. In over 5yrs. it's been shorts, T-shirts, sandals or flip flops for me. The last thing I bought to wear was a suit this past June for my granddaughters wedding. And then I had to buy shoes, socks, shirt & tie to go with it. After retirement, and spending so many years in coat & tie, I swore "never again". But for my beautiful granddaughter, I made an exception.
  4. Before going full time I made sure we were debt free, except for healthcare, long term care and cell phone. I wanted a minimum of $60k at our disposal to give us flexibility. In over 5yrs. we've never come close to spending that much, I figure we've been doing just fine on about $35k a yr. And we've been from FL., to AK., ME. to CA., and many places in between. We've actually increased our bank account by quite a bit. It gave us the ability to put a substantial down payment on a home we're having built.

    Repairing Dash AC

Not sure this is your problem, but on our Dutch Star our dash A/C started acting up. It would work fine, then just decide to stop working. Drove me nuts for a couple months. Then poking around in the rear I noticed a thin wire running into the front of the compressor. I gave it a little tug to see if it was connected properly, and it came off in my hand. I just re-spliced it, and shrink wrapped it, and it's been working fine since. But as my luck would have it, now I have a burned out roof A/C fan motor. I'll be replacing that this coming week. Just one of the joys of RVing.
  7. Just too much free money floating around that's turned into a drug for wall street. It's WAY over bought. My gut told me to get out 3wks. ago, and as it's turned out, it was the smart move for us. Since I'm now 70yrs. old I'm really not sure I'm going to get back in. I might create my own annuity to make sure we don't run out of money, and I do mean my own, not through a company. It's easy to do by knowing how much you have, how much it will earn(Which isn't much nowadays) and what percentage you want per month. Then you can calculate how long that lump of cash will last. In our case we're actually able to increase our withdrawal rate to a point that it won't run out in our lifetime. Of course nothing will be left for the kids, but that was never the plan anyway.
