  1. I chuckled out loud too when I read that. Jack doesn't come around the forum much anymore (or at least does not post or respond), but Henry might see this and have a laugh too. The Flat floor was what got me and why I went with the Spacecraft Semi. I now realize I can blame Henry for that too. Rod
  2. I'm sure Jack had one, as did Henry. I had the Grand Tour of Henry's at my first HDT Rally. Rod
  3. And in my opinion are much better than the one in Foley, AL. I've mostly visited Sikeston, have stopped in Ozark a few times and only once in Foley. It was not worth the hour I travelled to it, so I didn't go again when I was that close. They could have just had a bad day, I don't remember it being any sort of a "Holiday" or anything. I still suffer grief from my youngest who always looked forward to a stop at Lambert's for refusing to wait for a table on "Mother's Day" in Sikeston. It was just she and I and the wait was said to be over an hour. I'd driven to Florida to pick her up the prior Friday and we still had several hundred miles to get back home and to work on Monday. Picture posting

I got an iPhone late last year and my Daughter is happier now since she has had one for several years and always complained about my "Android" photos. I didn't think much of it until the second time I tried to upload photos from my iPhone into my PC. I swear it worked the first time, no problem. Any way I've decided to use my old Android for most photos and video for my use and if I'm sending a text with a photo to my daughter I use the iPhone. The android is no longer connected to a cellular network, but with my iPhone hot spot activated I can use the Android to email photos, mirror with the new infotainment system in the truck and all sorts of stuff, as long as the batteries last on both devices. Myth Busters

It all depends on how much you move the trailer and the weather conditions during your moves. There is also the consideration of the way you pull. Fast or slow, max carrying capacity or lighter loads. I liked the "Bearing Buddy's" with the grease zert on the cap. A few pumps from the grease gun and you have some new grease inside and hopefully some older stuff pushed out the back. (Be sure to wipe it off and dispose of properly). Now what's the consensus on wet bath bearings? Do you change the lube or only add more when you have to replace the seal? Rod
  6. The first trip I took with my new to me HDT included my Brother his wife and son driving it from Iowa to Florida to hook up to my trailer. They drove my Ford F350 back and we stopped at Disney (Epcot actually) and then hit Chattanooga, TN visited the Aquarium, Rock City and the underground adventure. (can't remember the name right now.) Their Son was in his early to mid Teens and my youngest daughter was almost a teen. They both had fun. Their son wanted to do the Zip Line but we didn't make it. Lambert's in Sikeston, Mo. was also a big hit with the "Throwed Rolls". The food used to be better, but that's the case everywhere it seems now. Have a wonderful time. Rod
  7. Thanks for the links. I keep asking my Daughter about the plan, but so far TBD is about all I get. They are ordering some glasses soon. I had some I used back in the 1980's and actually found them when I was in KC, but didn't get a chance to really use them with the heavy cloud cover. Rod
  8. I'm not planning on crossing the border into Mexico, but will be in the North Texas/Arkansas/Oklahoma area on that day. I've done a quick search of the cities mentioned of having a 3+ minute of Totality. You do gain to a potential 4 minute duration in Mexico. This will be my third Total Eclipse the first was in Hawaii on Oahu. The true totality was over the Big Island (Hawaii). The skies were very clear and it was an early morning event. Next I was in Kansas City and thought I had a great place the skies clear until about 10 minutes before totality and then heavy clouds arrived and while it got "sort of dark" it was not as remarkable as a Sunny day no longer being sunny. I'm hoping for clear skies and minimal traffic for the event. My Meteorologists will be checking the weather patterns before an early morning departure to where the clear sky hopefully be. Good fortune to all who will be attempting to get a glimpse and I hope you will have your appropriate eye wear. Rod
  9. If you are hooked up to your trailer 99% of the time, the lights at the rear of the truck are not that much of an issue, but if you daily drive you need to be sure. David is a great guy for sure. Rod
  10. Nice job with the repair. I went with raised floor slide outs in my home to have better sealing when they were extended. With that lip you have created it might serve you well to put a bit of soft flexible material that can be squished into the gap with the slide open. Good idea with filling the metal with foam. You will have to update us next winter to see if you can tell where the metal supports are and are not. Rod

One day I will make the journey, just not this year. Rod
  12. I was going to just let this post run it's course, but cannot today. Maybe it's because I used my left hand (non dominant) to brush my teeth while standing on one foot or maybe not. I have been a lot more productive today than what has been the normal since sort of "Retiring". I do understand that with any job, position, lifestyle and mostly a persons career choice money is paid for services. My issue is how the determination of who gets paid the most and what they are doing to get paid. You can post all the "Studies" and news reports you want. I don't subscribe to the Wall Street Journal or any of the other news sources. I do not watch anything more than the local news and weather if I happen to put up my TV antenna and scrolling through the "Internet" news I only click on certain items that may have interest to me. Maybe I'm ill informed or less informed as others here. I began working for a wage the summer after I turned 16 years old. I'd done some work for pay before that like many who were raised in the country on a farm. I wasn't a big strapping lad so putting up "Hay" wasn't my favorite job for money, neither was pulling weeds and/or cutting corn out of beans. If that was a winter job I'd be all for it. Being out in the sun with high humidity wasn't me cup of tea. At least at the "Gas Station" I started working at had "Air-conditioning" in the office. After I graduated High School I started working a company called "Wausau Homes" a prefabricated home building company. I started working in the factory stuffing batt insulation into roofing panels. Again it was summer and being inside in the heat working with Fiberglass Insulation wasn't for me. Luckily my Uncle was a "Supervisor" for the "Erection" crew where the parts were trucked to the homesite and put together with a huge (at the time to me) crane. Or with a smaller Crane mounted to one of the Semi Tractors that also pulled a trailer with walls, floor or roofing panels. I did that for about a year before my older children were born, then it was back to Gasoline Service Station work for a few more years. During the last part of my time working in my families station I started volunteering for the local Fire Department, that led to Advanced First Aid ( to go out with the Ambulance calls) and finally to getting my Emergency Medical Technician certificate. After a failed attempt to run my own Service station on my own I began working for a County Ambulance Service thanks to my EMT certification. I progressed through EMT-1 and finally EMT-Paramedic before attending Nursing School graduating in 1989 as an RN. Things in health care were starting (in my mind) down hill very quickly. When I first started working for the "Ambulance Service" it was a "County" run service. There were two hospitals in the town and in my opinion health care for that area was top notch. The Physicians at the time were fairly young, but had seasoned mentors who had been in town for many years. Dr's took care of there patients in the ER or in the hospital. There were no "Emergency Room" Specialists, no Hospitalists, no intensivist Drs. Your family Dr. knew you, your history and if they needed assistance there were Surgeons, Internists and maybe a Cardiologist on call from the University Hospital. Yes a big portion of the job with the Ambulance was making the 90+ mile trip with patients to the University Hospital that was and still is a Top Notch facility. Unfortunately the facility where I gained so much very good experience and knowledge was sold to a "For Profit" corporation not many years ago and I wouldn't suggest anyone cross the threshold for healthcare now. So this has gotten quite more long winded that I intended. And I'm not being as productive as I was this morning. I thought reading the forum while enjoying my lunch would be OK. Maybe not. Do I even know where I was heading when I started this? Not sure. I guess the comment of the 20 Million dollars for a "Non Profit" administrator maybe hit a nerve. The last Hospital I worked in had a very highly paid administrator who also took much more from the facility before being terminated causing the "Staff" to have a pay deduction for a time before that was found to be TOTALLY the wrong way to go. I still have contact with some of the employees, but much of the middle management staff I'd worked for have gone to better pastures or decided it was time to retire. It's really not looking good for that facility and it's one of the "Catholic Health" network that usually had better concentration on "Care" at least in their outward appearance. To finish up. I worked at many many health care facilities through my 30+year career. Some were better than others in the early years, but they all seem to be heading down the path of selling vs caring, cost cutting without evaluating the true costs and stuffing the pockets of people only interested in money. That's my opinion and why I started the post. Rod Lappin RN
  13. I do not do business analysis. I only call it as I see it. I also (and you also) have little input into how your 401K or IRA's are invested. They are controlled by "Financial Managers" who while are paid with money out of our accounts, don't actually "Work for Us". I asked both of my Financial Managers to remove any money I have invested from funds that supported for profit health care and was told by both that it was not possible. At this time I don't feel I can do anything further than just ask. In the future that may be different. Rod
  14. I'm not saying that someone who has invested in "Health Care" is better cared for. I'm saying Administrators of various "Health Care Corporations" are more concerned about showing a profit to their "Investors" than they are about taking care of the patients. The only first hand information I have about this is 30+ years working at various Hospitals across the US. I have little first hand information as a "Patient" (thankfully) and most of my family has been without the need of significant intervention by a health care provider. I do know much of what I experienced earlier in my journey as a health care provider has changed and not for the good of the patient. IMHO. Rod
