Here is a very negative review from RV Park Reviews: I'm unsure who the people are who give this "campground" a favorable review. It can hardly be called a campground. It's more of a cult type situation; where outsiders are not welcome. In order to get into our spot, trucks had to be moved and you had to be an excellent driver. Betty's home is In the middle of this small lot and the 5th wheels, travel trailers, and motorhomes are parked around it. We certainly will never stay here again. There is a state park up the road that is very nice. We camped at Betty's RV Park in a Motorhome. docj Posted January 23, 2015 Report Share Posted January 23, 2015 Betty's isn't an "RV Park"; it's a "life experience"! By all objective standards it wouldn't rate all that highly. It is very crowded; the sites have essentially zero privacy and are all gravel. There are no rest rooms, showers or recreational facilities. You aren't near any place you can walk to conveniently and if you have a pet you'll have to walk it along the highway. That being said, you don't go there for any of that. You go because of Betty and her "happy hours" every evening where you can learn about Cajun life and chat with friendly people. Betty is a "hoot" and from her we've learned how to eat crawfish and snap the heads off of shrimp, among other things. Yes, it's a bit of a cult and when Betty passes someday the place will probably die with her. But it's a fun experience to have been able to have had. Having been there, I would recommend any traveler to stop there at least once. It is a unique experience that you will have nowhere else. The story of the Acadians of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick who became our Cajuns is a poignant one that most Americans know little about. Betty's family traces itself back to those expelled Acadians. Those who avoid Betty's because it doesn't have the "RV park ambience" they are looking for will miss out on some of the best "real" ambience in Cajun Louisiana. Betty herself was a fabulous and gracious woman, so obviously deserving of her enshrinement in the Cajun Hall of Fame.. Her happy hours, potlucks, leading us to a Cajun music jam session, her Cajun restaurant recommendations..... were all so greatly appreciated. When they speak of being caught in Betty's web, they really mean becoming a part of Betty's family. We felt that while we were there; we always will. If a persons mindset is that they need to be catered to, this may not be the place. If you are a little outgoing, want to learn a little about the Cajun culture and music, and feel like joining Bettys famous happy hours and almost daily excursions it should be a fun experience. If 3lbs of crawfish and half a dozen buds don't sound like dinner, or if bloody marys and dancing at 9am on Saturday morning at Fred's lounge doesn't sound like breakfast, you won't be happy. On the other hand, if you'd like to be immersed in a culture of great music, food and gregarious people and especially if you like to dance this is the place. It's not that anyone requires you to be part of Betty's daily happy hours but there's no particular reason to stay there if you aren't interested in participating. However, I do agree with the comment that a week or two is as much of this "togetherness" as I can take. BUT...... we got a call from Betty the day we were due to arrive. Basically she said " hurry up- we are going to a party and you are invited" so we hurried to get there to go to the party- which was at her friend's house- a grammy nominated country singer. free music, free food- great party. 2 days later there was a "blue moon". Betty's aunt invited the entire rv park to her home on a bayou where the blue moon would be visible rising over the bayou. WHAT a blast! What "regular" RV park does that?? If you don't care about that type of unique experience, then yeah, don't waste your time going there. We have been there many times and love it. As others have said the biggest attraction is Betty who is a wonderful hostess who plans many activities for her RVers. We do not look at her as the park owner, she has become a friend. I guess you could say we are caught in Betty's web. We have met many people there whose first impression on driving in is we won't be here very long only to end up extending their stay and making plans to return. While we were here I had seen several couples that just happened into the place for a few days and were unhappy that there where no openings for them to stay longer. The happy hours brings all these couples into a community, something that I think many have missed since taking up full timing. If your interested I will have all my thoughts on MS Betty's on my blog next week.... If you judge it by just driving by, that's O.K. but you are missing the point. Betty's has hookups only so that you have a place to stay while experiencing Betty and what she offers.
