  1. How about, you just are driving down the road one day and say - Self, I don't want to do this anymore! I've spent almost 7 years full time, winters in AZ or NV, traveling spring, summer and fall. Some times big trips, some times back to the E. Washington, Montana, Idaho areas for a few months. For me, the cost of parks and fuel and just everyday stuff like eating has gone through the roof. I don't really think that's what tipped me over, but might have been part of it. Never minded, in fact was always glad to be heading North back to trees, clean water, ranches, miles of green grass....maybe it was that flat tire in Lakeview or the broken switch on the hitch in Pahrump. Could have been the foot of water in Burns...I don't know. But all that to say I've bought a lot in far NE Washington. In the process of getting ready for winter. I've lived up here before but in a great house with wood stoves so I know what the weather can be. Other folks here survive, so we'll see if I can Any reason to change directions in your life is OK. Seems to be that happens and we aren't always ready but, here we go! Toy hauler is in storage but I'll keep it just in case this doesn't work like it think it should. That's plan B. Still have Evie the cat, she's almost 6 years old and been to 11 states and 2 Provinces. Life is good.
  2. Hi Linda - don't come by here very often but just got a notice of a reply to one of my threads......so glad you found someone to help. I'm also in Pahrump (4th Winter here). Hope all goes well. Donna
  3. I've seen them along Hwy. 50, east of Carson City/Dayton, Nevada - early afternoon. We have a herd near the RV park I stay in Pahrump that is visible at times. Also, near Virginia City, NV they are out and about a lot. In South Dakota, near Hot Springs there is a wild horse sanctuary but it's more commercial. Lots of other locations - what area/states are you interested in?

  6. Yep, been using a version of that for almost 5 years! The gal I got my kitten from used it and passed along the info to me. At that time I bought Purina Layena Crumbles but I've bought other brands of crumbles and it works just as well. 50 lbs for $20 is what it is now, when I started it was $15 - $17 depending on where I purchased. Why I like it? No odor, clumps, isn't clay, can be found just about anywhere there is a feed store in small towns. I have 2 buckets with lids that I store it in and that works for me. Never had any issue with my cat not using it.
  7. Most of the RV parks I've been in would be a definite NO. In AZ the park allowed an 8x8 canopy, but none of the others would allow any type of canopy/cover. Best call first.
  8. Today I booked sites for the next two weeks, thru the 4th of July. I left May 1st from So. Nevada and have traveled to South Dakota with reservations that I made the 1st of the year. A couple places that I have in the new itinerary were not available, and one was too dang expensive! ($118.00 per night for a 30 amp pull thru). I was able to find other parks that had openings and all worked out. Was rather surprised I was able to book a week including 4th of July week-end at one of my favorite spots in Montana. Granted, I'm not looking in heavily populated areas, but did check places along I-90 in Montana and they were booked or very, very expensive. Many RV parks have told me they've had LOTS of cancellations....but then people like me call One place in a very small town was booked solid, but the time I wanted was a festival in town and it's to be expected.
  9. Saw this on another forum - hope everyone is safe. https://www.forestriverforums.com/forums/f155/yellowstone-park-entrances-closed-due-to-flooding-252536.html
  10. Yep, read that.....just made a comment as to what it was like for cattle/horses. Not stating any different.
  11. Interesting - I used to raise horses/cattle and for dna we HAD to have roots. Didn't know it was different for human. https://vgl.ucdavis.edu/sample-collection/cattle
  12. I have found lots and lots of solo RV'ers are out and about....all ages, well into their 70's & 80's. Have you gone on any shorter strips just to make sure of all the things you are worried about are not problems? I'm more picky about the weather than I used to be, don't drive in wind, don't drive in bad rain, don't drive at night, don't do the long, long days. Not into hair curler museums, but love dinosaur and local history, so are out and about checking things out, seeing beautiful country but at a slower pace. I also enjoy the adventure of meeting new people, most of whom are wonderful and ready to share a conversation. Everyone is different, see how it goes and then you'll have a better idea of what solo travel means to you. Good luck, hope you enjoy your trip.
  13. pictures and description Please watch the short clip above from FoxNews. Thought we as a bunch of travelers might have some info. Thanks
  14. Maybe too close?...have you been to The Likely Place in Likely, CA between Susanville and Alturas? Very nice camp ground, in the middle of a big ranch, lots of trees, biking/hiking paths, lots to offer (from their website): We welcome families with kids and pets. Our kids playground has swings, a teeter totter, slide, a shallow water play area, and soccer goal with balls. Fish in our ponds, canoe, kayak and paddleboard - all free! Our 18-hole golf course and driving range is outstanding. We are family friendly and pet friendly. Likely Place I've been there several times and it's always enjoyable. They have a small restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch - small store/fuel in Likely but better grocery in Alturas. Keep us posted and have a great trip!
  15. What part of Nevada do you live in...that will help with distances. Would a state park type place work?
