  1. Derek has probably got a better handle on what the latest from MS is for security. I would put Malwarebytes on it (free) and maybe spywarebotsd too. And upgrade and scan every week. Lots of us are pretty interested in that particular device so we'll be interested in what you think. WDR
  2. This is probably the best way to buy stock. You become, in effect, a partner sharing the same philosophy. It's why I invested in MS back in the late 1980s. And it worked very well for me, too. Until the crash of 2000. But still... no complaints. There were weeks where I'd make $5,000 just in that stock. I remember taking a vacation in the '90s and coming home two weeks later to discover that I was $10k richer. LOL. It was amazing. But even when the crash came I was still way ahead. Still am, actually. I'm a big believer in solar because I had actually used it and knew it worked. But until now there has not been an entity that exhibited the same sort of belief. ARCO was building solar panels back in the 1980s and got out of that business. I think they discovered that solar would put their petroleum-based business plan into trouble, frankly. But they looked good for a while, ironically. This current interest looks like it might last. I think it will transform the world, frankly. WDR
  3. By far the safest way to invest is to do your own research and move in in increments but where do you do your research? Blogs are useless, most web sites are too. The "motley fool" used to be at least somewhat reasonable but when I've gone to that site lately (last few years) it's been pages and pages of blather and no real information. I do have a broker I can sorta trust (they have not churned my account in the 20 years I've been with them as they moved from one name to another, at least). But in general brokers are not to be trusted except to buy and sell what you tell them to. Even then.... WDR
  4. A fair number of stock market brokers are not much different than used car salesmen. Back when Microsoft was doubling every six months I told a co-worker (blonde girl) to take the $5k she had and buy MS stock and to not listen to the broker when he said that it had "topped out" and not to buy ANYTHING he told her to. She ended up with only $2500 in MS and $2500 in some useless POS that the broker had been told to move... The MS was worth $10k or so by the time she sold both of them to buy a house. LOL WDR
  5. Earl is right about honey not being any different than any other sugar (despite all the nonsense on blogs) but since it does contain local pollen I can see that it could affect allergic symptoms. My all time favorite use of honey is along with peanut butter on toast. Oh, my! That is so good. But you have to hold it level as once the honey warms up it will run right off the toast; a few drops are plenty. The DW makes acorn squash with a liquid concoction of honey and butter at the bottom and it's good enough to be a dessert! When we had our farm we had several hives and tended our bees (we had 2500 cherry trees) carefully. They're wonderful creatures and we loved having them and loved getting our own fresh honey from the hives, too. Now we just go to farmer's markets and get honey from the farmers we knew when we were doing it. No processing at all... just centrifuged and poured into jars. WDR
  6. We pulled our 21' Streamline (think Airstream with two axles) down to SoCal and back with our 1994 Dodge 3/4 Ton Cummins 5-spd manual and got 16mpg. The truck does have a camper shell on it that sticks up just a little above the cab so the result is pretty aerodynamic. Trailer unloaded weight is listed at 3500 lbs. With a 1993 Dodge Cummins 5-spd 1-ton dually we got 14mpg with a cab-over camper. That same 1-ton pulling a 29' Alpenlite 5th wheel at 7500lbs (empty)l got 11 to 12 mpg. I bought a flow-through tailgate for that truck to see if it would help but I could see no difference in mpg. All in the west with mountains everywhere you go. I think that if you pull a travel trailer with a pickup truck you will get better mileage if you install a canopy on the pickup if only because it smooths the airflow and eliminates the eddy behind the cab.
