Hello from Las Vegas,

 

We have decided to perform some "work camper" duties this summer in Oregon. We have utilized the WorkCamper web page to look for positions but feel that web page is somewhat limited in it's offerings. We found the Working Couples web page and are considering joining the site for $12 quarterly.

 

Question: Has anyone out there used this page? We assume it is a reputable organization but would appreciate any feedback for Escapee's. Thanks

workers on wheels is a free option or the workcamper.com subscription service. I am not familiar with working couples. KOA is another option that has workamper subscription.

I'd suggest that you go with the oldest RV worker's job service of all, the Workamper News for only $40/year! They have been in the business the longest and have a great track record. We subscribed to the magazine back in 2000 when we began our full-time adventure and found it to be very helpful and so stayed with them for our entire time on the road. We found many of our positions through them.

Workers on Wheels is a great site and has many listings - all for free. You can also post your resume on that site. We were members of Workamper News, but realized after the first 3 years that we had not really used that site to obtain any of our jobs, so did not renew. We actually got 3 of our positions off this website , either a current workers stating there would be an opening, or from the volunteer area. We also use volunteer.gov

We also subscribes to Workamper News but found that we rarely used to and cancelled our subscription...I have never heard of the "Working Couples" site so can't help you with that one. The new job board that the Escapees site provides has picked up a little but is pretty limited...but it is free! Good luck and let us know if you try and like the site you are inquiring about.

I ( Cookie ) have been using or at least keeping my Workamper membership active for years. The reason we are also looking at other websites is because so far this year we haven't found anything in the Pacific NW. As of yesterday we are communicating with one park that we are familiar with. Trying to workout a the time frame out, not sure we can commit to 6 months! Thanks for all your input

Since you've tried Workamping News and it isn't working for you, I'd definitely try Working Couples for a quarter @$12.00. I have no experience with it but hopefully, it will give you some added leads to check out. Good luck!

I might be wrong but I believe that Working Couples doesn't particularly

target workampers.Never subscribed to their service

but at one time was on their list serve - remember seeing positions advertised

for storage lot management, and the like.

I have a favour to ask. We are looking for a host/hostess at Monck Provincial Park near Merritt, British Columbia, Canada. This is a volunteer position, without pay, so Americans would be fine. The position is mostly to entertain the campers. We like to have at least one movie a week in our amphitheater. We have regularly scheduled events ie. pet parade, scavenger hunts etc. The position would start about the 2nd week of June and finish the day after Labour Day. It would be 2, perhaps 3 days a week mostly on the weekend. That's what we are looking for.

This is what we offer. A beautiful, terraced site large enough for the biggest rigs. Power and water is included. Grey water into a rock pit and the dump station is just down the road. We have a store and staff gets 25% off. Firewood is supplied. We have a beautiful lake, Nicola Lake, white sandy beach and the water is cold but perfect for swimming. We have about 10 ki of hiking trails, one of them along side a lava bed. Fish are abundant.

The town of Merritt is only 20 minutes away and has most amenities including a regular Walmart.

So imagine spending your summer in beautiful British Columbia for free. (well you have to pay for your food)

Do you have an idea of what you want to do? Work camping in general covers a broad spectrum. If you have a park, place or employer in mind, contact them directly.

We were members of Workcamper news for a few years (even appeared in a short article in their mag in 2011). Lots of good info, but all our volunteering/working positions have been the result of direct contacts with places of interest. This includes state parks and national park concessionaires.

Also, post your interests in this forum. You will find folks here who have worked in every aspect of work camping and in all areas of the country. If you find a position you are interested in, ask about it here as well. Good possibility someone here has 'been there, done that'.

Thanks so much for being a WKN member. If you're still on the hunt for a position in the Pacific NW and you have an active Silver or Gold membership, remember that you have access to past issues of Workamper News magazine. Most employers that advertise with us have had Workamper programs for years and continue to hire Workampers even if they are not actively running an ad right now. I encourage you to review past issues of the magazine (the Nov/Dec, Jan/Feb and Mar/Apr issues) for summer positions in the NW. The ads are organized by state and you can easily search a PDF file by hitting Ctrl-F on your keyboard and type in your keywords.

 

And, if you've been saving your daily Hotline email full of job listings into a folder in your personal email inbox, be sure to do some keyword searching in there as well.

 

Also, be sure you have your Awesome Applicants Resume up to date with your state preferences and availability date. Many Employers only use our online resume database to find their Workampers and do not advertise.

Are you looking for paid work or volunteering?

 

If you're willing to volunteer, Malheur National Wildlife Refuge is looking for volunteers.

 

We volunteered there for three months back in 2006 and had a lot of fun! If you're into bird watching, it's a great place to be!
