Newbie (1/14)

  1. Escaped north ND on October 15 and got to the RGV in TX on October 19. I may stay for the winter or I might go west in February to explore NM and AZ.
  2. Looking forward to seeing you at the showing on Friday, the 20th.

  3. Alice and I got to north North Dakota two weeks ago. That's two weeks or two months early, depending on who's talking.
  4. I' planning to leave Dakota Friday and join my friends in the RGV by Halloween.
  5. Alice and I are finally ready to leave ND. Said goodbye to all our Mondak (MT/ND/SD) friends; jacks are up, and ready to pull the plug. A little snow and 50MPH gust are going to keep us here till Sunday. Keep reminding myself that I'm a fulltime RVer that has a loose schedule. We'll be in the RGV by Christmas for sure! Looking foward to Semi Nuts lunches.
  6. Took Alice to a friend's (since kindergarten) daughters wedding in White Bear Lake. Put her on a train back to Williston, ND and continued to another friend since kindergarten on the WI/IL border. The third visit was an old friend in Addison, IL. Tomorrow, to near St. Louis to visit brother and SIL and five days at Lake of the Ozarks to see it the old body can still water ski. But I'm cheating --- first car vacation in several decades. BSing with old friends is better when I sleep in their homes. Never thought I'd say that.
  7. We are leaving the RGV Friday morning. I'm sorry that we missed the February RGV luncheon and now we miss the March day at the track. Planning to take a month to get to Dakota. We'll only get to Kingsville to see the museums and to Alice, TX to see the South Texas museum on Saturday or Sunday. Austin will get three nights. Generally, well have little access to the Internet or even e-mail, so it's "So long for now!"
  8. We're in Cheyenne, WY. We had what seemed like a good weather day from Kansas. The head winds on I-80 were 31 MPH with gusts of 42 MPH. I remember that, in a mini-van, I had to take it out of overdrive and run at 60. This time, I also ran at 60 because Alice didn't like more in the chase car. The boost held close to 20 PSI and the Pyro went to 700 degrees. I'll fill up Wednesday and find out what the damage was --- I bet seven MPG instead of my usual claim of ten. Although I had little trouble, a Fed Ex double was sure wagging. It's our goal to go to Buffalo, WY on good weather Wednesday. April 10, it's expected to be sunny and 66: good travel weather.
  9. Alice and I will be leaving the lower Rio Grande Valley as soon as a friend is recovered from and operation. Our first stop will be the tiny town of San Ygnacio, still south of Laredo, They have a post office, a cafe, and the Cords RV Park on the Rio Grande. It's a spot with wet clothes and inner tubes on the U.S. bank. Once we leave San Ygnacio, we'll continue relative quickly to Garden City, KS to visit friends. Relative quickly for me is traveling that 833 miles in less than a week!
  10. We took US 385 through the panhandles of OK and TX. In OK, it was like being in another country -- narrow with no paved shoulders. From the state line, TX gave fully double the pavement with wide lanes and shoulders wide enough to use as slow lanes. After two parade laps around the circle in Boise City, I sent the chase car a head to make sure we knew which exit to take to continue south on S 385 because it wasn't marked. We sure didn't stop in those 40 miles, just went slow and survived them.
  11. We made it to our perch in the RGV, TX and are looking forward to a lunch with the Semi Nuts. The weather is too warm but relief is in sight. We may not see 90 for quite some time.
  12. Leaving ______ and heading for _____. I'll generally be off line and my cell phone turned off so the GPS cannot be used against me. Hope to see you guys in _______ next ____.
  13. Just a quick note that we'll be leaving Rio Hondo, TX for a slow ride to OKC, taking about nine days. Except for Rio Hondo, I have very spotty access to the Internet, so you won't be hearing me much. Wichita in October is a sure thing for me. I'll see you there!
