Trav'ler Box On or Off?

Recommended Posts

With exceptions, we are stationary for a week or more at a time, and 5 months in the winter. Would it make any difference if the control box for the Winegard Travler is left on, or would it be any benefit to unplug it after it is set up? I think it is just an led light on the front of the box, but don't know if there are any components operating inside. (When we've lost power in the rig and it was restored, the box remained unlit without loss of any picture.)

I used to turn mine off. There are two buttons you can push to turn it off or you can unplug it and plug it back in - it will stay off after you plug it back in.

From the manual:
TIP If you want to turn off the power to the TRAV’LER antenna after the antenna has locked onto satellites, press [POWER] and [sELECT] at the same time. Before traveling, make sure to press [POWER] and wait for antenna to start to power up. Then press [POWER] again to initiate the stow sequence. See page 4 for more information on stowing before traveling.

That's exactly how we do ours. Be sure and add "push the POWER button 2 times to stow antenna" to your departure check list. Very easy to forget after sitting for a while. (Voice of experience).
