Travel Concerns Need Feedback

Query of Tuesday, July 7, 2015:

Presently on Vancouver Island, just north of Victoria, BC Canada. Wildfires are reported on the Island, the mainland of BC and provinces further east, such as Alberta and Satskatchewan. Our plan is to begin a 300 miles drive north along the east side of Vancouver Island, camping Thursday night in Campbell River and arriving dockside in Port Hardy on Friday evening in order to make our departure at 7:30 am for the ferry reservation on the "Inland Passage" (about 360 mile/16 hour voyage through channel islands to Prince Rupert, BC). Then, we'd stay in Prince Rupert a few days to plan the trip eastward.

Plans were to take the northern portion of the Trans-Canada Hightway (Hwy 16 -- the Yellowhead) all the way through BC to Valemount, then cross into Alberta and drive southbound from Jasper, Lake Louise and Banff to enjoy the Canadian National Parks in W. Alberta. Thereafter, we'd continue the Trans-Canada Highway dropping into the States through either Minnesota or south at Sudbury, ON to the Niagara Region of Western NY.

The problem is the number of wildfires on Vancouver Island, the mainland of BC etc, to the extent smoke has caused air quality alerts into the US midwest. I'm paying attention here on Vancouver Island, but haven't seen anything about the "facts" of RVing on the proposed route -- be it air quality and ash falling or the highway(s) being blocked due to an active fire or evacuation orders.

Your insight about the present circumstances and projected week ahead is much appreciated.

No rain in the areas of the fires? Could be a problem. Welcome and may you have Safe Travels!
