Satellite transponders

I have a question on transponders, we are on dish and do all the stations come off the same transponder on lets say 119. I've been having problems lately with 119 on my Tailgater, some of the channels won't come in so I change transponders to a stronger signal but after I go back to the channel it still won't come in, so I go back and check and its changed back to the weaker signal. Is it the tailgater, receiver or just a weak signal. We've had the system for 4 or 5 years and this is the first time its done this, we are in northern AZ.

Each channel is on a particular satellite and specific transponder. You can't command a channel to come off of a specific transponder. Changing sats and transponders on the Point Dish screen is just for setup purposes when you are pointing the dish.

Dish network on 119 has both Conus & Spot HD programs.

For the program you want, make sure it isn't a spot one at a different location then you are at.

The Electronic Program Guide only shows channels that are within the spot beam. You can't select something outside the spot beam.

 

There are only a few service locations that use CONUS beams, all in the EA, so that is not relevant.

 

A particular transponder has 4 or 8 channels depending on encoding. You pick transponders only in the Switch Check. You pick channels and the Tailgater aims at the satellite and the receiver tunes on the transponder and the channel if filtered from transponder data stream.

That's just absolutely not true. When I change locations, I still get the old locals showing up in the program guide even though I'm unable to receive them. It stays that way until I "move" and get a new set of locals.

 

But, that's not what the OP is asking. He's wanting to mandate that a particular station use a specific transponder which has a stronger signal, which is not possible. Each transponder has certain stations assigned to it and when you tune to that channel, the receiver switches to that transponder.

That explains the problem I've been having with some of the channels. I also cured some of my problems by changing out the coax from the dish to the trailer it was the original one that came with the Tailgater and who knows how many times it's been stepped on and tripped over.

If you have updated your location with Dish, within minutes the old locals, that you can no longer receive, disappear from the program guide and are replaced with the new locals that you can receive. The fact that you are in transit and haven't notified dish that you have moved, is not an accurate arguement. If you are up to date then , as Mark said, the program guide only shows the channels within the spot beam where you are.

Maybe it would be more accurate to say that the EPG will only show those channels available at the service location you last reported to Dish. If you are no longer at that location of course, those channels may not be receivable.

I understand that. If you'll read post #3, the inference was that the OP might be trying to tune in a station which was not within his current spot beam's ability to deliver. Then, post #3 states that if the station is not within the current spot beam, it won't appear on the programming guide. And, that's not true. The local station of your last service address will stay on the programming guide until you "move" to a new set of locals, which you just confirmed.
