Running DVR and TV on RV battery?

I noticed my DirecTv DVR power supply has a 12-volt DC output; so apparently the DVR operates using 12 volts. The power supply is a small box about 2 inches by five inches. I wonder if I can bypass the house inverter and DVR power supply and run the DVR directly off the battery. The actual battery voltage varies between 12.2 volts and 14.3 volts at different times, but would that variation have a bad effect of DVR operation?

 

On another note, the TV power supply is about the same size and also puts out 12 volts to the TV. What about also running the TV directly off the house battery? If I could do these things, I could save quite a bit of battery power which is used to operate the inverter and the two 110-volt power supplies.

I am not sure how your DVR and TV would react to the higher voltages. 12-13.5 should be fine but 14 or more might cause a problem. How about a 12 volt regulator to cut (or limit) the voltage to under 13? Here is an example but not sure it would work for you but they do make them. http://www.mini-box.com/DC-DC

It's certainly a good idea, but you wouldn't necessarily be able to simply by-pass the converter boxes. A direct connection would more than likely do catastrophic damage to your devices, however, you 'should' be able to order 12v power adapters online fairly inexpensively to match the make and model of your DVR and TV. It would save you a fair amount of juice.

 

Barring that, you can simply match your devices input requirements (labeled on the device) with a generic adapter.
