  1. Sue, our new Mobile Suites only had 1900 lbs of net carrying capacity BEFORE they installed a generator, washer/dryer, and motorized satellite dish. I'm not sure what you mean by "tons" of carrying capacity. I hope we have a strong and well-built frame, but net carrying capacity on paper it does not have. Roy
  2. As you can see from our avatar, we have a proper large dog We have not hit the road fulltime yet (will do so in the next three months) but we've camped with him a bunch. Max is not the most dog-friendly, but is very people-friendly. I just wish others would keep their own dogs on a leash and all would be well. Roy
  3. So, now that we're under the 10-month mark, we are getting serious about the RV selection. We continue to go back and forth between a nice diesel pusher and a high-end fifth wheel. But, we are trying to make the first good financial decision of our lives, and are looking at a more modest fiver and truck. Could save $100K if we go that route. Seems like the right thing to do, as long as we are still happy as fulltimers. What we're not going to do, is to change RVs 18 months into the journey because we made a mistake. So, we'll make the best decision we can, and will look forward to hitting the road in the Spring of 2016! Roy
  4. Glenn, you seem to always blame Lippert frame failures on the specifications set by the manufacturer. Well, the sheer volume of Lippert failures and problems is a direct reflection on Lippert and not on the manufacturer, except that the manufacturer knows what they're going to get by choosing Lippert. They do not build a reliable product, regardless of what the manufacturer specifies. My theory is that they simply build fast, cheap, and at a higher volume than they can build well, like most of the Elkhart trailer manufacturers do. Until we hold Elkhart and Lippert responsible for the crap they are building, and stop supporting them by demanding unreasonably low prices, we'll keep getting what we pay for. I will vote with my wallet when we buy the fulltime rig, and we'll make sure our manufacturer knows why we chose them. Regards, Roy
  5. Mandolin, We vacillate back and forth between a higher-end fifth wheel plus a Ram 3500 dually, and a Newmar Dutch Star diesel pusher. We will have a limited launch budget, so we are trying to be smart while not making a mistake. Whatever we go with, it needs to be THE full time rig for us. Not gonna be able to change rigs every couple of years. As for our house, we have it rented out (So. Cal location) and are debating whether or not it is wise to sell it (and net 50-75 grand or so) or let it marinate for several more years. We will need to have seed money when we come off the road, and the house equity could do that, but I also like ditching the hassle of being a landlord too. We will get the house appraised next spring, and will make the call at that time. Hope to meet you on the road in summer of 2016! Roy
  6. By way of an update, we're under the one-year mark till retirement. That will mean an RV purchase next December, with our launch being in the spring of 2016. Today, we're leaning toward a nice fifth wheel and a 1-ton dually. Tomorrow, we may swerve back to a motorhome. We've been planning for this adventure for so long, that I'm running out of gas researching/planning/dreaming! Hopefully it will get here very soon! See you on the road! Roy
  7. Well, we'll be joining the Class of 2016! Our financial situation has necessitated a change from 2015 to the Class of 2016. We hope to go fulltime in the spring of that year. I'll retire in December of 2015, and we should have our RV acquired in early 2016, which will allow us to flee Nor Cal in time for summer to arrive. We look forward to seeing you all on the road! Roy
  8. Like you, I intended to go fulltime before my actual retirement date. That's why I started the Class of 2012 thread. But, alas, it will be 2015 at the earliest. Many changes to our financial situation have occurred (like many other folks.) I'll be happy if we can actually pull off the fulltime departure as planned (or as close to "plan" as possible!) I need you to show me how to insert a countdown timer into my signature! Roy
  9. We originally intended to go fulltime in 2012. But, the economic downturn changed that entirely. Now we are looking at 2016 at the latest, and we might even sneak out there in 2015. We intend to purchase the fulltime RV the minute I retire, and hit the road as soon as it is ready. We will rent out our house in SoCal, and intend to be on the road for as long as it is still fun! Hope to see you on the road! Roy
