Post Escapade HOP

Maple Syrup, Basin Harbor, and Lake Champlain

July 29, 2016

After a wonderful week of Escapade seminars and workshops, you may want to take a relaxing but fun-filled tour around the area.

Board a luxury coach with a knowledgeable tour guide, and enjoy the charming roads of Vermont. Driving along the shores of Lake Champlain, you will learn about the region’s rich history.

First stop will be at the Dakin Farm, located in the beautiful rolling hills of the Champlain Valley. Featured on The Food Channel, Dakin Farm showcases a sugarhouse that has been boiling sap for over 58 years! See a King Style Maple Syrup Evaporator, which boils the sweet sap from the local hardwood sugar maple trees into the pure, yummy Vermont maple syrup, and see their USDA plant where meats and cheeses are smoked using the farm’s original 1800s Vermont recipes. Enjoy the spacious gift shop, which offers a wide array of Vermont specialty food products, including the famous Vermont Cabot cheese. Remember to taste their samples, too, especially some maple sugar in the “snow”!

The Basin Harbor encompasses 700 acres with over a mile on the Lake Champlain shore, and has some of the most beautiful views in the world! Lunch will be included at the Basin Harbor Club.

After lunch, enjoy a peaceful and scenic cruise on Lake Champlain aboard a U.S. Coast Guard vessel. After the cruise, visit the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum and step aboard a 1776 gunboat replica Philadelphia II docked at the waterfront. Explore the lake’s 300+ historic shipwrecks, learn what made this area so pivotal to Benedict Arnold’s fleet during the American Revolution. Learn about the Native Americans, the early French explorers, the 26 steamboats of Lake Champlain, and the historic Champlain Bridge.

Last but not least, “I scream for ice cream!” stop.
