Head Out - HOP
South Texas Birding HOP April 13- 18, 2015HOP Hosts: Steve and Kay Krasovetz #92265 South Texas is rich with piney woods, grasslands, lakes and rivers, making this location a prime area for migrating birds, and making Texas a major migrating corridor in the United States and a magnet for bird watchers. Each spring there are as many migrating birds as there are birders, which makes birding one of Texas’ fastest growing activities and truly a birder’s paradise. In April it reaches a fever pitch with the greatest numbers and variety of migrating birds. Some of the well-known birds that will arrive are Hummingbirds, Warblers, Swallows, Buntings, Cuckoos, Hawks, Orioles, Thrushes, Flycatchers, the Yellow-headed Blackbird, Green Jays, Chachalacas, Caracaras, and Waterfowl, just to name a few. Although birds are the highest-profile migratory species in South Texas, there are also bats, butterflies, dragonflies, and sea turtles migrating. There will be a considerable amount of walking; please bring comfortable walking shoes, binoculars, and a camera for those beautiful pictures of the migrating animals in South Texas. Escapees has secured a private gathering room for dinners, announcements, social hours, and meetings, in case of inclement weather. You will have a wonderful time, and the Escapees have a fun-filled time lined up for you at the South Texas Birding HOP. Come, go with us; we’d love to have you!
