  1. Hi all, I'm looking at an older 2005 motorhome. It has been meticulously cared for and is in excellent condition except for some faded and peeling decals. It has very low mileage at 14,458. For the last 3 years it has been going to Florida and Maine from New Hampshire so hasn't been sitting. Previous owners I'm told used it sparingly but that it didn't sit around for long periods of time. To those who have experience with this and giving them the benefit of the doubt as far as not sitting too long, how much if any over list does the low mileage and excellent condition add to the list price. He's also throwing in a Patriot towing system (tow bar and braking device) which has good value. Average retail is 27,800 (according to J.D. Power) and asking price is 38,000. It's an Allegro Open Road on a Workhorse Chassis. Thanks for reading
  2. Hi all, I'm trying to decide between 2 motorhomes. One is a 2005 with a GM drivetrain 8.1 engine and Allison transmission with 11,430 miles. The other is a 2006 with the Ford V-10 drive train and 34,000 miles. I remember reading that the Fords had trans issues on some earlier years but were improved upon later. To those of you who know what year did they make that upgrade to the Ford tranny? Also should I be worried about the very low mileage on the 2005? Both of these coaches meet my price point and look to be in very nice condition with floor plans that I like. Thanks for reading , any thoughts and input are appreciated.
  3. Hi all, I found a 2007 Fleetwood Southwind 37c that looks very nice. It is about 500 miles away from where I live so I want to make sure it's worth the trip to go look. It has 38,000 miles on a Ford V-10 and is priced at 50K. I looked it up on NADA and they have it priced at 40K which seemed a little low. Looking at similar units on RV Trader it's priced in the ball park although there were not very many like this one. With 38K miles assuming proper maintenance would this coach have a reasonably long life, say to 100K miles or more? I have had a diesel pusher in the past so I'm somewhat familiar but not sure how the gas will be for longevity and also cabin noise. Any comments or insight is appreciated. I don't know much about Fleetwood but I'm doing some research. Looking to revisit full-timing, likely stay out for two to four years. Thanks.
  4. Just wanted to update you all as the OP. I left NH on May 15th heading for Yellowstone with many stops in between. Now sitting at Blue Mounds State Park in Luverne, MN and have over 1600 miles behind me. So far so good, not without issues but so far minor (pray and knock on wood and !). Thanks to all who have replied. There was an interesting thread on the IRV2 forum sort of germain to this discussion. It starts out a little comical and hard to believe but as it moves on many of the posts hit home for me. https://www.irv2.com/forums/f59/im-a-scared-neurotic-anxious-overthinker-trying-to-full-time-579486.html
  5. Kirk, Yes I am moving ahead with my plans. I have all my reservations made and planning to be on the road approx 6 weeks. Spending Memorial Day Weekend in Hermosa S.D. then make my way to Yellowstone for 6 days. Many other multi day stops along the way. Lastly to Vermont to a Bluegrass Festival and then home to NH. I do very much appreciate all the replies to my post and especially those who shared their own personal circumstances, apprehensions, plans, trips etc. I'll be moving on with renewed enthusiasm and confidence thanks to you all. Perhaps being alone lends one to overthink things. Wishing you all Happy Easter and safe travels. Thank you all.
  6. Thank you, your comments are thought provoking and much appreciated. I suppose it's not a nagging feeling that I shouldn't go but hoping that and getting reassurance that 70 shouldn't be a limiting factor and isn't for many others. Like I said in my original post I hope others will know what I'm trying to say even though I'm not doing a good job of it.
  7. For myself I would describe it more as apprehensions not necessarily a gut feeling that I shouldn't go.
  8. I have done a few shorter trips yes but on roads and in areas I am very familiar with.
  9. v I have been RVing since in my early 20's. Like many I graduated from a tent trailer then TT, 5th wheel and then a diesel pusher. My wife of 46 years passed away in 2018 and shortly after that I sold the motor-home. We did allot of big trips and full-timed for a few years. I bought a TT last year and have a 6 week trip planned next month. It was one of the last things on our bucket list to get to Wyoming, Yellowstone etc. I have been wanting to follow thru on the plan for me and especially in her memory. I am 70 now and as the departure date approaches I'm getting a little apprehensive about heading out on my own. I'm starting to doubt that I still have the wherewithal to cope with the traffic, possible breakdowns and other logistical issues as the trip progresses and initial plans need to be adjusted. My wife was my copilot, advisor and navigator and she was very good at it. Not sure I can do all the things that she did. I am in good mental and physical health but just wonder what my limits may turn out to be if any. To those of you who may be 70 and beyond and still venturing out I would like to hear your thoughts on aging and continuing to be on the road. when is it time to pack it in, will it be obvious? I'm thinking that you know where I'm coming from even if I didn't explain myself that well. Thanks.
  10. You posted this in Travel Logs which can't be replied to.  Wonder how Kirk was able to reply?

  11. I planned a trip out to Yellowstone from New Hampshire and going to take about six weeks to get out and back. I felt that I needed to secure reservations for the entire trip because of the increased popularity of RVing and campgrounds being mostly if not totally filled most nights and especially on weekends and in the more popular areas. This is so contrary to the way I used to travel pre pandemic when I wouldn't plan more than a couple of days out. One of the problems with this sort of travel is that if I find an area that I really like and want to spend an extra day or two I can't because of the ripple effects of all the reservations I have going forward. Even worse would be if I had a mechanical issue and got delayed a day or two then every reservation would need to be canceled or rescheduled and I'd probably be out of luck with some of them if not most. Wondering how others have handled this and curious how many of you have run into these sort of issues or have you not changed the way you do things since the pandemic hit? Love to get your thoughts. Thanks for reading.
  12. Going to spend 2 nights in Cody . Want to see the Rodeo but will have time for one or two scenic drives. Thanks.
  13. Thanks to all who replied. I am going to use some of your suggestions. I originally routed myself through Garryowen because I thought I'd be staying in Gardiner and thought I'd work in a visit to The Little Bighorn National Battlefield. Then I got lucky and scored a site at Fishing Bridge. Going to take Kirk's suggestion and head to Buffalo, then a couple days near Cody at Buffalo Bill State Park then on to Fishing Bridge. Planning on going out the same way. So 16 from Buffalo to Worland because I'm not sure about Rt 31. Then 20 to Greybull and 14 to Cody and on Yellowstone . Hopefully that is a good plan. Thanks for the suggestion of spending a couple days in Cody.
  14. I will look at that thank you. Wanted to visit the Little Bighorn National Monument but it's not on my list of must sees.
  15. Hi all, Traveling from NH to Yellowstone in June. I'll be traveling on I-90 and have reservations for Fishing Bridge RV Park. I'm spending the night in Garryowen, MT then on to Fishing Bridge. To those of you who are familiar with this area can you recommend a route from Garryowen? Thanks
