  1. I'm not getting the allure of the Living Vehicle deal.
  2. last couple 5th wheels were 15k lb or above, pulled them with a pile of different tow vehicles - ram 2500 with the 6.7 diesel - gmc 2500 with 6.0 gaser - volvo 610 with cummins ISM The 6.0 gaser was under powered and really didn't like wind or hills. Mileage in the 4-6mpg range, it wasn't enjoyable at 15k lbs. The 6.7 diesel had plenty of power and pretty decent engine braking. When the load cleared 20k lbs more truck would be better, but it wasn't a power issue. More so braking and engine braking. 15k lbs it would get 7-9mpg. The ISM was great for eating miles on the interstate. 9-11mpg with the 24k lb trailer, insane engine braking and very stable.
  3. to this question "what they would do based on being late 50's to mid 60's retiring today?" the answer to that question will depend upon two things: 1) how much money is needed during retirement 2) acceptable risk For example, if the needed income is low is relation to the nest egg one could leverage a 'fixed income annuity' and be guaranteed income regardless of market downturn. But, those returns are typically low. Alternatively one could risk it all on a specific stock and enjoy a windfall if correct, or eat pork and beans if not correct. I don't believe a one size fits all approach should be taken as a 50 year old could easily have 40 years of retirement yet to fund. I believe you will need to continue a similarly aggressive (as compared to today) investment strategy for part of the current retirement dollars due to the duration of retirement needed.
  4. The world today is an odd one... Between my wife and I the companies we work with have various responses to covid: - Fly everyone into the same location and have a massive party/concert with globally known artists, no masks no vaccination requirements - Fire everyone who isn't vaccinated and don't open any offices (all work from home) I find it interesting that we can have large successful companies reacting to the same problem in such different ways. I'm very glad that employees have the ability to chose which place they would rather be employed with. My vote on the rally, schedule it and let people make their own decisions. I can guarantee that whatever scheduling decision is made it isn't going to fit everyone regardless.
  5. Some intel on the pump limit When you buy gas with a cc, the swipe validates the cc and grabs an authorization hold on a defined amount of money (amount set by the merchant). That authorization hold locks up those dollars to ensure that the card has enough capacity to cover the purchase. If they didn't have this process an over limit card could be used to get the pump operating then not be able to cover the purchase. The reason $75 or $100 is used so often by the merchants is because the cc's hold merchants liable for bad purchases OVER that amount. IE, If the pump limit is $75 then the merchants have no liability. If the pump limit is $400 then the merchant would be liable for fraudulent purchases that made it through at the pump.
  6. my free opinion long term investing within a single company is about the same as betting on red at a roulette table low cost index funds however are a great long term strategy, fidelity / vanguard are a couple of excellent places to start, basically you buy index funds like a stock
  7. Hey lappir, being on the road and having issues is a pain. I live in ND in the Fargo area, if you need something don't hesitate to reach out.
  8. Sounds like a DirectTV streaming issue (as it is the only one have issue). Try searching those forums for intel. My guess is that it isn't happy with either your bandwidth or something in the pipe. For example I was having a DishNetwork issue, turned out that network gear between me and Dish was stomping on their traffic.
  9. which brakes are you thinking are doing this? the trucks or the trailers?
  10. 5 gallon bucket trap(s) outside the RV with bait (catch them before then get into the rv), you'll also want to trap whatever you currently have inside, peanut butter is a great bait
  11. Winching it on will be a lot less 'exciting' specially when conditions are subpar (night / rain / etc). For the SxS / quads and the one time I loaded a smart the 4500lb winch was plenty of power.
  12. If long term is the goal... The strategy for 2021 is the same has it has always been. Stocks not bonds, keep costs low and continue to fund through thick and thin.
  13. Older thread; but here is some current intel Proteus is a company, they do 110volt sensors which talk via wifi. No subscription and free txt alerting (phone calls for a fee). The cool part is that since they are cloud based if the device isn't talking to the cloud you get an alert saying that it has lost contact. I use this solution to monitor sump pumps; works crazy well as you can tell if the device is tripped or if the device isn't communicating (wifi down as example or power out as example). Here is an amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/Temperature-Humidity-sensor-Buzzer-Alerts/dp/B01AQ0PZFS/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=proteus&qid=1628885789&sr=8-3

    Washing

To wash the HDT and the 5th I've used the following - scissor lift (safest and easiest as the controls are in the bucket) - skid steer with a man bucket (safe and a lot of room but you need a 2nd operator) - walked on a semi trailer next to the 5th (slick but no railing) Other then the roof you can do the rest from the ground. My vote is to just do what you can from the ground and run it through blue beacon once a year for the roof.
  15. On the HOA; the precedent concerning "selective enforcement" I believe that has been applied to HOA's not cities. Concerning the dolly; I witnessed a situation where a resident was involved in a similar issue (they couldn't have a little shed down by the lake because it was a building). So he put it on a trailer, trailer was licensed (but obviously couldn't be pulled anywhere). The rules didn't say anything about a trailer sitting by the lake (even tho a shed was on top of it). What if you did something similar (I was thinking the 4 wheeled style when they tow a car and need all wheels up).
