  1. Just got into Dawson City, Yukon after spending six weeks in AK. Met up with Janet and Raymond Church in Valdez, AK. Good times. Bad weather and mostly challenging roads. Low marks for Tok Cut-off and Tok to Chicken roads. Chicken to Dawson City not so bad. All doable; just got to go slow! And have a sense of humor.
  2. Ron and Shelley Johnston of THOR and the Adventurers arrived in Tok, Alaska today for a one night stay at Sourdough Campground. We took the ferry from Bellingham, WA and arrived three days later in Haines, AK. We hit the highway, crossed into Yukon Territory for three days, and crossed back into Alaska today. Easy-Peasy border crossings both times but of course we had prepared for being boarded so no fresh anything and no dairy or eggs. Went out tonight to Fast Eddy'srestaurant and had a great meal of halibut and salmon. You never saw two people devour their fresh salads with such gusto, lol! Also I thelocal super market - Three Bears - that had awesome fruit and produce. Yummmmm!
  3. We are at Pioneer Trails in Anacortes, WA. Nice park but hard to get a spot with satellite reception as there are LOTS of trees. They are selling RV spaces (yes, SPACES - not "lots") for $57K to $157K; higher priced spots have gazebos and 100A. Double wide spaces (THOR, Freya, and Loki are comfortably parked here in our space and there is a picnic table and fire ring.) The space we are in is for sale for $82K. Beautiful wooded area about 4 miles from town. Good facilities throughout. Must pay electricity. If you buy, there are also fees for the HOA ($75) and $46 for property tax. You actually own the space. No idea what resell would be; they just started selling. Some already purchased and folks have put really nice park models on them (tiny houses). Seems pretty pricey to me, nonetheless. We are here for the holidays visiting kids and grandkids. Beautiful here in the spring, summer, and fall; chilly right now - almost noon and 31 degrees. Clear blue sky today - has been raining for the past week. Won't get over 34 today and most days temperature will go from low to mid 30's. Some days down into 20's. Not much snow in these parts except on the hills/mountains. Hanging here through mid Jan; maybe even mid February. Good news is that University of Washington doctors have determined that Ron's tumor is NOT a GIST, it is a benign Lipoma and does not need to be surgically removed. He is doing much better!
  4. Hey - can we get a link to the RDBE Facebook page here? I have some big stories to tell Ladies - you can't believe what went down this summer to Ron and I!
  5. I understand many folks have either had the couch and chairs moved in and out through the front window or the get furniture that have removeable backs. Regular (non-RV) furniture is available in all shapes and sizes. If space is a concern as well as weight, look for options under the category of "small space furniture" and see what comes up. Also consider just getting a regular comfy couch and buying a high quality queen size air mattress that goes on the floor - quite comfy and inflate/deflate quickly. Often more comfortable than a sleeper sofa or futon.
  6. Thanks. We talked to DRV about putting in Laz-e-boy but turns out Forest River has an exclusive deal with them and thus no other company can actually install their recliners for you - it has to be done after market. We cannot try about the Lambrights yet as we are across the country. We will probably go with the Flair for now and then change it out when we find something we both like (always a challenge ). Hopefully in our travels we can get by Lambright and check them out.
  7. We have now visited Lazy-boy, Basset, and looked at Stressless. So far I have liked the Lazy-boy Rowen reclinaway (more contemporary look wall hugger) although Ron found the Stressless to be a tad more comfy. Stressless does not do wall hugger however and is quite a bit more pricey.
  8. Yes, one name provided to us was Lambright Comfort Chairs - near DRV factory. Looks like nice stuff. Only issue is that we cannot sit in it before ordering. It's likely we will go with Lazyboy for recliners unless we are otherwise educated. BTW a good amount of my current stick and brick is Amish. I am a fan.
  9. During a recent conversation with a very helpful DRV owner one of the subjects that came up was the furniture. This fellow and his wife had stock furniture replaced with custom made Basset recliners and a sofa bed since they felt the DRV stock was neither comfortable nor durable. What are other's takes on the comfort and durability of furniture provided in a DRV? Any recommendations on which company makes the best furniture suitable to an RV?
