dan412
I'm looking at a used 2010 Volvo 780 with 13 speed. I downloaded the check list from this forum how important is the dyno test and what I'm looking for when I see it? Anything else I need to look for. Thanks, Dan 2011 Volvo D13 485/1750 Eaton 13 Speed 2016 Montana 3820FK

Big5er
Get your dyno done, and then take the results somewhere else and have it read for you. I bought my truck from a dealer in Minnesota and had them do a dyno on it for me. They emailed me the results and I took it to a local dealer to get it interpreted. JPL
Big5er, My truck came from Minn but it was already MH. The winters are hard on the frames. I'm busting some rust trying to get it ready for the ECR. It spent 9 years up there. I've had it for 5 years. Time sure flies when you start to realize you are getting older. At least I am getting older!! Take care. Pat The Old Sailor
Star Dreamer
We did the opposite, we are from MN but bought our truck in Texas. It had the cleanest looking frame we had seen on a truck. We have been lucky to not have had to drive it in winter so hopefully we are keeping the rust away. The truck had been a southern truck. (No engine block heater or fuel heaters) Back to the OP question, you might be able to get away without a dyno, but you would have to look at the condition of the truck, miles, how it drives and what maintenance records it has. When we bought our truck, we could not find a local place that could do the dyno because of the Ultrashift transmission. It should not be an issue with the 13 speed you are looking at. We ended up buying it without but did still have a VIS check done, which found a few items that we worked out with the previous owner prior to purchasing. The truck had low miles on it at under 450k, had been in RV use for a few years already, had good maintenance records and ran good. Yes, it is a chance but it was one we felt comfortable making. We still recommend other get dyno's done especially if mileage is over 500k. dan412
The truck has 810000 miles on it. should I get extended warranty up to 1 million miles or two years for 6K dollars. Don't know if it will be worth it to spend that much money on warranty when the two years will be up way before the miles. NoDirectionHome
The dyno run, a VIS check and negotiating anything that it needs from the results would be a better warranty to me.
