RV Inspection Livingston TX

Carolaow

Recommended Posts

I have a recommendation for any RV'ers visiting Livingston who need to get their inspection done. This place will inspect vehicles, motorhomes, towed trailers, and fifth wheels. There is ample room in front of their shop to maneuver your rig (unlike a couple of the other local inspection places).

The fellow who did my inspection was knowledgable about travelers who may be showing up to get their inspection done well after they got their registration (unlike another place that told me I didn't have to get inspected at all).

Soda's Auto Repair

936-563-4234

6709 Highway 190

If you are coming from Livingston, head east on 190. Soda's is 6.2 miles after the intersection of 190 and 146. It will be on your left as you near the top of a hill and is across from a cell tower.

Full-timing and enjoying every minute.

Closer still is the trailer repair place on 1988 out the back door of Rainbows end. Nice guy, access doesn't look good but he has plenty of space. PM me if you want his phone #

Several years ago Soda's was the only one listed at the Escapee's Office that would take truck and Fifth Wheel. There was a few in Livingston listed but some city ordinance would let me park on the street while they did the inspection.

We use Soda Auto Repair also. Very easy access. Super nice guy doing inspections. Painless. Give him a tip if he is doing a trailer or heavy truck. They only get $7.00 for the service per state regulations and that won't pay the bills.

What is the inspection for?

You are aware that most trailers and motorized rv's are required to have an annul safety inspection, right? If you are not aware let us know or speak to the tax office in Livingston. This is only for folks that are registering their vehicles in Texas which in mostly anyone that is a Texas resident.

Didn't know that. We are domiciled in Florida and they do not require an inspection.

Don't all states require RV/car inspections?

There is many levels of inspection and all state are difference. There is inspections determined by use Commercial, Farm or private. Inspections determined by weight. Inspection for engine emissions generally near population centers. Then there are random inspections which may look for DUI, Seat Belt use, Insurance, registration, Drivers License, and anything else that catches their eye that may not be safe.

Livingston TX, Escapees. RV Inspection.

Just adding our nickels worth. We have taken our 5th wheel to Harrison Body Shop (not the friendliest group 😕). This year we went to "Trailer Repair & Maintenance" on FM 1988 just a mile or so from Escapees. Super nice young man, his place looks a bit tight to get a 43' footer into BUT... he has plenty of room, just circle around the shop when you're done, lots of space.

California only requires annual or biennial smog tests and a VIN verification when a vehicle is brought into the state.  They couldn't care less about the condition of the rest of the vehicle.

Nevada is similar, except the smog inspections are only required in Clark County (Las Vegas) and parts of Washoe County  (Reno).

The inspection law sorta stinks for me. Took this new construction job, lasted over a year. Can't get tags until inspection. Not pulling in slides and towing just for inspection either. County loosing revenue since I can't get registered. This law conter productive for them

As with most things governmental . It is more about revenue than safety . Good bad or indifferent . Follow the money and you can figure out why its been set up the way it has.

Texas does not have any fewer wrecks than any other state per capita as far as I know due to the safety inspection

I kind of like the inspection in TX if it is actually done and correctly.  It is not much I know but at least all the lights  have to work at least once a year and few other things.  If you spend much time on some other states following a lot of vehicles  the light thing can be appreciated. Not to mention windshields so cracked they can hardly see out of them.  I wish more would check and fail vehicles with too dark by far window films.

One thing not mentioned on the inspection is that the vin number is double checked for stolen vehicles.

Different states allow difference levels of tint. Missouri allows the front side windows to be tinted, sell the car to someone in Illinois and the new owner can get a ticket
