DuffMan
Anyone figure out the economics of a $6K turbine that generates 2.5 KW max. My figures say 20 years minimum payback and that assumes interest rates stay at 0% and you have a location with sufficient sustained wind to generate at 2.5KW/HR! NH2
For me, living in places with enough sustained wind to produce electricity would be turnoff. On the other hand, I'm happy to search for locations with enough sunshine to feed my solar panels Mark Mark & Sue---SKP#86611 '06 International 4400LoPro DT570 310hp 950ft-lbs.-Allison--3.70 gears '05 36' Teton Liberty '12 BMW F650 twin
SIBERNUT
Neighbor had one. The whizzing damn near drove us nuts, and we live near an airport. 2000 Volvo 635 A/S, N-14 Cummins"The Phoenix"'03 KA 38KSWB http://s918.photobucket.com/user/sibernut/library/?sort=6&page=1Furkids- Sibe's CH. Yarome
I've never seen this particular one in action, but I've seen an Air Breeze, a Sunforce, and an Air X. I have to agree with Sibernut. The "whizzing" sound is almost more obnoxious than a genny. I know with the others too that they claim to produce energy with as little as 4-5mph winds, but the 'trickle' at those air speeds is practically worthless. They require much higher wind speeds to actually produce to their rated capacity. For a backpacker I could see where it might come in handy, but it would certainly be cheaper and lighter to pick up a flexible solar panel and small storage battery to charge your cell or gps. Novel design though.
sushidog
I can't consider one cause I have a bird - and they are notorious bird killers. I can just envision my little beloved conure flying into one and getting chopped to pieces. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IO5LjgIEofg Chip
SIBERNUT
You think we could combine one with something that attracts these damn Canada geese? Maybe a BIG one? 2000 Volvo 635 A/S, N-14 Cummins"The Phoenix"'03 KA 38KSWB http://s918.photobucket.com/user/sibernut/library/?sort=6&page=1Furkids- Sibe's CH. Yarome
I can just envision my little beloved conure flying into one and getting chopped to pieces. That's quite vivid. You'll never find one in my camp. It's really quite saddening, and I'm not even a bird lover. How tragic.
