Full Time Warranty

Recommended Posts

Looking at getting a new 5th wheel. A person I was talking to today said they went with Mobile Suites because they have a full time warranty. He said a lot of the other manufacturers have in their fine print that they do not cover the unit if it is used full time.

I have never heard of this. Have any of you? Some say just don't tell them but it is pretty clear we are full timers.

That is a true statement. Ask the salesperson when you are shopping. Most manufacturers build their coaches for weekends and the occasional longer trip....they don't build them for full time. Better to get the information early than learn the hard way.

That may well be true...However we have owned 6 Rv's over 30 years and have never been asked by any insurance company or extended warranty company how we use the RV or been denied a claim. We have been long timers for the last 11 years living in our Rv most of the year with not a problem .

Use your own good judgment.

I think the concern is that a manufacturer/dealership could deny service to a full timer IF the

warranty excludes full time use. I can't say that I've heard this happening. To me the significant

issue is that a manufacturer that mentions no full time warranty isn't as desirable for long term

use as a manufacturer that doesn't exclude full time use....long term reliability.

R-Vision did deny warranty work for fulltimers before they were bought out. I have also heard it said on low end Jayco's in the past, they wanted you to buy a higher end unit if you were going to fulltime or use it for more than two week vacations. A couple dealers, one in Jacksonville Florida, were known to sell cheap RVs to people and then deny warranty work since they were fulltimers. Have not heard of a case in years, but it has happened. Of course most RVs only come with a one year warranty.

Don't ask the salesperson, read the warranty yourself! Greg

Absolutely right! If you read the warranty and it doesn't state that fulltime use is excluded, it isn't an issue. We never had a problem with warranty work when we were fulltime.

When we took our Keystone product back to the factory to have work done on it, it was a challenge that we were fulltimers. We just told them we use it a lot but they wanted us to leave it there and come back for it when the work was done. We really had to push without telling them that we lived in it, which they clearly didn't want to hear. I am not sure if they would have voided our warranty but the issues were so severe, they actually took it back, so I didnt' want to test it.

We have taken both our Montana's back to the factory service center for extensive work more than once they know full well we live in it most of the year. They have a s mall campground at the rear of the service center We call it camp Keystone. They would work on it during the day and pull it t o the campsite at the end of the day.

We have not heard of a full timer being denied warrantry work during the first year or a extended warranty company after that. We have many full timers on our Montana owners forum and I can not recall a case were work has been denied. Montana or any other brand.I do not recall ever being asked how long we lived in the RV.

I am sure it has happened somewhere sometime.

We are new, and this is one question we asked when looking at 5th Wheels. Here is what we found. I'm going off old notes (last year) so please do your own research:

Grand Design - Solitude 384 GK 1 year full-time

Forest River Cardinal 3850 & 3456 - 1 year Full-time

Landmark most styles and it is on the outside of the coach 2 year Full-time

Heartland ( Big Horn?) 1 year full-time

Soltice Starcraft - 2 year full-tme

VanLeigh Vilano 1 year, anytime. They don't ding you for full-time

Mobile suites - full-time, but we didn't investigate because new was more than we wanted to spend.

Many that did not have FT warranty, the sales rep would just say, don't tell them. I have a problem with that so while I liked a couple, I stayed away from them. Please note we did not read the warranty. We did read some print-outs and most of them indicated full time use.

Happy Trails,

Jim & Ginger/Nomad Hikers

Forest River told me their only full time warranted fifth wheels are Alpine, Avalanche, Montana and Riverstone. Heartland has the Landmarks, Big Horn & Big Country. KZ Gold, Augusta, all the GD Solitudes, Spacecraft, VanLeigh are also. The 1 or 2 year warranty has nothing to do with the full time rating imo. I'm sure there are more that I've neglected to mention.

Grand Design honors the warranty for full-timers for all their lines (Reflection, Momentum, etc.) - not just the Solitudes.

Note Alpine, Avalanche, Montana are Keystone products not Forest River products.
