Absentee voting in Polk County, TX

Recommended Posts

I was filling out mt Texas application for an absentee ballot today and ran into a problem. We are both under age 65 and full-time using our Escapees mail forwarding address as our legal domicile. On the absentee ballot application form, we have to state the reason for voting absentee. The only choice we qualify for is "Expected absence from the county." However, the instructions state that, if we select this reason, the ballot must be mailed to an address outside of Polk County. We will be on the East coast in November but our mailing address is still our Escapees mailbox in Livingston. Since I'm sure other Escapees have run into this, how can I get an absentee ballot sent to me?

This is from the escapees website:

"Mail My Ballot To (When you are voting absentee, you cannot have your ballot sent to any address in the county in which you are registered, unless you are 65 or older or disabled.) Escapees Mail Service members who are traveling out of the state may have their ballots sent to the following address:

Your Namec/o Escapees RV Club,PO Box 1578Shepherd, TX 77371"

Hope this helps.

I think we all forget, from time to time, that this forum isn't really monitored by personnel at Escapees and the best way to access specific information is from the Escapees Website

We completed the forms and mailed them last week. When I picked up the form in Livingston at the County Clerk's office, they mention the limitation on mailing the ballot to a Polk County address. They also mention the Shepherd, TX address. Thought I would check it out and drove out to Escapees. The person at the window had not heard of the Shepherd, TX address. I did not pursue any further. I'm having ours mailed to my brother in Jefferson County.

Thanks for pointing me to the Escapees website. I will try the Shepherd, TX address and see what happens.

We had ours mailed to our son's address in Tennessee (although it hadn't arrived as of Friday...).

Polk county told me that the ballots would start going out around the first of October and they wouldn't all go out at the same time.

Instead of mailing my request in, I scanned the form and emailed it back to them.

Got an email from Escapees mail service saying our absentee ballots are now in our mailbox, so tomorrow I'll email and set up a delivery. Just like the notice we get when our vehicle registrations are in our mailbox - a very, very nice service.

Well our ballots are sitting in our mail slot at Livingston. The instructions given to Polk County on the request form said to send them to our Yuma, AZ. street address. I wonder if they hand carried a bunch over to the mail service to put the postage on us? Then another PO episode. The mail service sent out our mail just like they always do and correctly. Checked the tracking number yesterday morning and it was out for pick up (General Delivery zip 85367). So off to the Foothills PO. Asked for the envelope and they checked the drivers license for ID. Couldn't find it. I will say two clerks were good. We had our street address forwarding for the summer discontinued October 1. We also have a PO box at that post office. The one clerk checked all PO boxes to see if it could have been stuffed in one. Also another clerk showed my wife a scan picture of the Escapees envelope arriving at the PO but it wasn't there and it was never scanned by someone when being picked up. So they told us they would call us if found. This AM we get a call that it was at the Yuma PO zip 85365. In we go to retrieve it. The clerk there said they have no idea what or how it happened. Just wonderful!

I called Polk CO yesterday and was told that the last ballots would not be mailed until the 29th. Hope we are not in that batch as it doesnt give much lee way to get to Escapees and then to us and back to Polk CO by the deadline of 11/8.
