Camping or Boondocking in Yuma

Recommended Posts

We are planning a trip to Yuma AZ mid January and was hoping we could get some suggestions on the best places to camp or boondock. This is our first time there so any information/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

We have boondocked extensively at Senator Wash LTVA north of Yuma. There is a wonderful community with plenty to do, hiking, biking, aerobics, yoga, 4 wheeling, etc.

We're camping at the Pilot Knob LTVA west of Yuma (actually, in California just over the CA/AZ border). There's also a free BLM area down the road from here to the west.

We've also boondocked along Ogilby Road (see the link in 2gypsies post). There are several areas, but the one we've always stayed at is north of the railroad tracks.

On RT 95 just north of Yuma is a 14 day free BLM area. It is on the west side just behind the VFW. Quite a popular place this time of the year. Just on in RT. 95 to the traffic light at the junction of Fortuna RD. and RT. 95, turn left on to Fortuna RD. go over I-8 and get in left hand lane. Turn east on S. Frontage RD. and on the right will be a rear entrance to the Shell/Burger King lot. On the southeast corner of the lot is a new $5.00 dump station. Credit card or $5.00 bill activates it. Plenty of room for rigs.
