Ms. Tioga is No More - George is OK

One of the greatest vagabond RVs ever is no more. George had a heart episode and wrecked the famous Ms Tioga. He ended up with heart surgery and MS Tioga was totaled. He has broken his bonds with her and moved on. Don't know what is in store for his future.

Here is his blog.

Good Luck George - Hope all goes well.

Well she got him safely off the highway when he passed out at the wheel, apparently sacrificing her own innards in the process. Eleven years is a long time to travel together! Glad George is recovering with friends and is once again blogging. Will be interesting to see where the journey goes from here.

Kevin. Thank you for the notice about George and MsTioga. I found his blog a great resource for not only how-to's, but in being able to meet soemone who is the type of person I like to meet on the road; a person who seems to embody the idea of what it means to live the freedom life on the road offers.

I am very glad to hear that George survived. He was an inspiration to me when I was thinking about coming to the US and traveling around in an RV. I am sure he inspired many others too. Inspired us to the possibilities outside Passport America and KOA.

MS Tioga took him to many wonderful places.

Hi to all of you!

I was really lucky when I passed out while at the wheel of MsTioga. My RV went to the right, down the embankment. Ending up in the field alongside Interstate #5, south of Bakersfield.

The RV could have gone left, crossing the median and entering Interstate #5's northbound traffic!! Many people could have been killed.

Barbaraok,

I did receive regular medical checkups during my five years living in central Mexico. I even selected my own cardiologist. However, apparently this cardiologist did not pick up on the signs of my advanced aortic valve disease.

Well, that is all in the past now. I've had my aortic valve replaced with a fabricated cow tissue valve. Also, one blocked heart artery was bypassed.

If one has not followed someone's blog, etc. and does not know the facts, perhaps they should not jump to conclusions.

Good to hear you are doing good George. My hubby sees his cardiologist every year (because I'm a nag) and still they missed a blockage. Thought he had a pulled muscle, found out it was a heart attack and went in for by pass surgery. So best wishes to you and have a great recovery.

Glad to hear you're OK, George. Your travels have been an inspiration to me as well, and I'm grateful to you for that and grateful your adventures will continue!

You are fortunate the accident happened where it did, an area I know well -- a wide open area of heavily traveled interstate where you had room to run off the road and lots of people around to stop quick and help.

Hi George! Glad you're okay and nice to see you here on the Escapees forum. Be careful now, these RV forums can become addicting! LOL

I sure do wish that arrhythmias showed on angiograms, then I would know what caused mine.

But, that is getting off-topic. I too am glad that George is ok and that no one else was injured.

Keep up updated if you will George.

I had not heard of "Tioga George" and Ms.Tioga" before this article, so I became interested in why he became "famous." In this article, about the "Tioga Team" I made the discovery - he has a tremendous sense of humor. I can see how he made living on the road fun for himself, and his readers!!!
