We are looking for something to make it easier to get in and out of the fiver. Would like your opinion on these two options below: ie ease of use, safety does anyone have something similar? Big Greg Posted February 8, 2016 Report Share Posted February 8, 2016 We have been using them for the past year, great if you travel a lot. They are very easy, unfold, set on the top OEM step, adjust 2 bottom levelers and install the hand rail, less than 5 minutes. When we leave just take the hand rails off, lift the steps off the OEM step, fold them up and I place them in the truck bed behind the hitch. They are aluminum so are light. But handrails were very important and I haven't seen any portable ramps that come with handrails. After my knee replacements steps no longer hurt but I still prefer to have handrails. Get one that is as long as possible. Ours folded in half and stored across the RV. KodiakJack Posted February 18, 2016 Report Share Posted February 18, 2016 (edited) We too got a ramp for our dog(s). It was heavy duty fiberglass with a nice non-skid surface and folded in half. When in place it was not so wide that you couldn't walk up the steps along side of it. So you had a choice ramp or stairs. Most of the time if the ramp was in place we just used it. The dogs loved it. Al F Posted February 18, 2016 Report Share Posted February 18, 2016 While this is not what the OP was asking for, but I had a chair lift installed for my wife from Coach Lift. We had the lift mounted inside the door of our Class A. The lift takes the chair down to ground level, my wife sits down and the lift takes her up and all the way inside to the floor level. No steps to navigate. The lift has been working great for us the last 2 years. No it is not cheap. But when I was pricing lifts a couple of years ago, Coach Lift was $2000 to $4000 cheaper than others I found online. Thank you. The ramp from overstock (per ADA requirements) is long enough to work for 1 step, 4 1/2 inches tall. Not really of any use in this application. The power lift suggested above is surely an elegant solution, although a little spendy. Portable, folding steps seem likely to be the most practical answer. It will be next to impossible to find a situation where there is room for a ramp long enough to be workable. Even with a couple of landings and switchbacks.
