Jackalopee Help

I'm having problems with the brake control wiring. The blue wire from the brake controller has power into the terminal on the truck side of jackalope but no power on the trailer side. I double checked all wire connections as per the directions all that is right. what do I check now

On the Jackalope the terminals have markings on them. Can you tell us what the terminal markings are where your brake wire is going to. What brake controller are you using ? I think this info can help the experts figure out what the problem is.

I have a Hayse brake controller and all the wires are in the right place I check for power on the truck side of the jackalope has power there but no power at the trailer side of jackalope.

Best just to contact Henry directly at his website. Could be a bad relay. His site is ethitch.com and their is a phone number listed for help.

You should have two blue wires to wire Jackalopee, one a part of the truck 7 wire cable, the other coming from the brake controller. Do not confuse the two. The blue wire from the truck should be inserted into pin 7 (AUX) in the row of seven terminals reserved for the truck. The blue wire from the brake controller should be inserted into the terminal BRK CNTRL, it's in a row of three, at the top is +12V SWITCHED, below that is +12 DIRECT, and below that is BRK CNTR.

Note that this terminal is part of a thick etch that goes across the board and ends on the other side of the board (TRAILER side) and a BLU [2] terminal also marked BRK CNTRL.

The brake controller signal does not go through any relay, it just takes a "trip" through the board from one side to the other, through that thick etch. Also note a thin etch going up to the BRAKE LEVEL LED which indicates if there is any power coming to the board from the brake controller wire.

Not to hi-jack this thread but: Should the brake light in the Jackalopee light up even if the brake is not applied?

Could my brake controller be sending some voltage through even when the brake is not applied? [Max brake controller]

The brakes do not seem to drag al all.

The brakes do not seem to drag al all.

LED is a diode and as a diode it "avalanches" (conducts) once the forward voltage reaches the threshold voltage. Regular diodes conduct current once the voltage reaches 0.6V. Light Emitting Diodes conduct current (and light up) when voltage reaches 1.7V to 3.3V. Why such a range? Depends on chemistry and color of the LED. Red LEDs will light up at 1.7V, blue ones (at the other end of the color spectrum) at 3.3V. The term avalanche voltage stems from the fact that at that voltage the diodes conduct current but cannot "control themselves" and will try to conduct all the current that is available. Unless you limit the current (with a resistor) the LED (or a regular diode) will light up brilliantly for a moment and then burn up.

The current through all the LEDs in the Jackalopee is limited to 20mA each and they light up at 1.7V.

Some brake controllers periodically "pulse" the brake circuits to see if there is current flow through the magnetic pucks to ground and that you have brakes (and the trailer is still there). Depending what that pulse is (current and voltage wise), the Jackalopee LED might or might not light. Some controllers also "complain", they don't understand what that 20mA current at 1.7 volts pathway is for?

Most brake controllers will send a very low current "signal" into the circuit to ensure the trailer is hooked up. That is how it gets the trailer connected/disconnected message.

After I talked to you on the phone I went home and figured out that I had the blue wire from the truck in the wrong place. I switched it and now it works all the terminals in one spot confused me. Thanks for the help.
