Exile Posted September 17, 2016 Report Share Posted September 17, 2016 I looked at a 2009 yesterday, and when it was idling, i noticed a whooshing noise on the passenger side when walking around the truck while it was idling. Not quite a whistling noise. Is this the case for all dpf trucks? I am used to driving old junk before the 7th injector was used. Does this bode ill for the longevity of the filter? 450k or so on the clock, 15k hours. 98 379 with 12.7 DD LG Dodge w/5.9 CTD Chrome habit I’m trying to kick. Nigel Posted September 17, 2016 Report Share Posted September 17, 2016 If it was a Volvo it could also be the exhaust brake coming on to help warm up the truck. Mine quite often does that when the engine is cold. Kind of like a potato in the tailpipe noise. jeffw Posted September 17, 2016 Report Share Posted September 17, 2016 Mine makes a similar noise as it's warming up. If you want to test for sure, shut off the truck and bleed out all the air using the foot brake pedal. Restart the truck and once the air pressure comes back up to around 80 psi you'll hear the exhaust brake come on (it's air activated). it'll come on at the same time the fan clutch turns off (it's also run from air). I actually heard the engine take load right after starting, so i bet that was the exhaust brake, Jeffw.
