Anybody tried this unit for Wi-fi boost?

Recommended Posts

This would be a KISS approach to getting bringing in a weaker signal. Note the ability of obtaining other antennas to attach. And while I do not know the spec's on this particular piece of equipment, many 'wifi repeaters' while bringing a signal in, will also cut the speed/throughput in half. All depends upon the technology they use.

I did have as simple 802.11B USB Crane suction cup antenna years ago, and it helped a bit, but not much. But no comparison to this unit.

Hope someone has more specifics on this particular unit for you:)!

You are right Sehc, tried to order it Friday and got the "we will notify you when they are available message...hopefully Gord will have his unit up and running soon...I would rather support a fellow RV'er anyway.

You are confusing an enhanced wifi signal with enhanced (amplified) cellular. Gord's amp, when available, will boost CELLULAR signals. The device you are looking at captures and repeats a wifi signal.

Thanks Jack, I wasn't sure exactly what Gords device was for...and obviously I am terribly inept when it comes to tech devices and the lingo!!! By the way, thanks for your post on this site, they (along with others) have helped this non-techy person out tremendously!!!!

  • 3 weeks later...

An update...got the Alfa unit, installed it and nothing but a large red "x" across the icon on the task bar...un-installed it and re-installed it again with the same results. Went to the Alfa web site to see if there was a contact number to call or e-mail and suddenly got a brainstorm...I had installed Windows 10 prior to getting the product and wondered if that had anything to do with it...in searching their web site (which is very informative, by the way) I found it...a long list of downloads to make their products compatible with Windows 10!!! Bingo, downloaded the extra drivers and the product works great!!

I have used this part of the setup for several years. Attaches to two USB ports on my laptop. Can't speak to comparisions with any competition other than moving the WIFI signal out of the laptop, outside and to elevation works wonders. http://www.amazon.com/Crane-Super-USB-Wifi-Antenna/dp/B004UR72IM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1443110604&sr=8-1&keywords=crane+wifi
