Gypsy Traveler
We have a deposit to hold a 2012 Jayco Pinnacle 36KPTS. They are going to install electric leveling jacks so the price is $57K. The problem is....I went on Progressives sight and they only gave it a value of $38 and want $132 a month for insurance. Something doesn't sound right. How do I know if I'm getting a fair deal on my 5er? Kirk W
Insurance companies do tend to value a used RV low, but your purchase price looks awfully high as well. Have you looked to see what it lists for on the NADA site or better yet visit the library and look at a copy of the published version, as it has much more information that the website has. If you have already paid a deposit on the RV, there is probably not much that you can do to renegotiate price now. Good travelin !...............KirkFull-time 11+ years...... Gypsy Traveler
I tried to find our 5er on the NADA site and it's not listed. Yes, I have a deposit on the trailer, but if I can't figure this out, I'll just walk away from the deal. I haven't signed any financing paperwork yet. skp51443
Talk to your credit union or maybe bank, they should be able to check their price listings for you. bigjim
How big a deposit and is it for a certain time before you make the final decision. It could be refundable depending but be ready for the run around. I put a $500. deposit by check on used one back in June. Had I think a 2 week time so I could check it out the way I wanted. I decided against it and they gave me a little run around and an actuall lie about the check clearing but I got my $500. back but it took a second trip back after I got my bank statement to prove that the check had cleared. The check was on a local military credit union in the same town and the check was actually scanned in for deposit and cleared in 2 days. I think they wanted to punish me for backing out. Funny thing is same dealer the parts dept. and service dept. have always been great when I used them.
Jack Mayer
Most libraries have the real dealers NADA book. The one online is pretty much "wishful thinking". jamtracy
Seaching around for this model the prices are all over the place. There is one at PPL for under 40K and seems to be pretty loaded. One on craigslist for $49,800. Sometimes I search around checking options and conditions to figure out price points. bigjim
Then of course even with good pictures you won't know for sure until you show up to look at it live. In recent years I have found that the libraries only have the NADA at specific branches and most likely the main library for rv's.

Al F
Are you sure it is a 2012 model year? NADA has a listing for your trailer for the model year 2013, but not for 2012. Could the trailer be a 2013 built in 2012? I have seen Mfg'ers building the next model year RV's starting as early as April the year before. Here is the NADA for the 2013. You could take 10%-15% off of the NADA prices for the 2013 model year and approximate the 2012 model year. Here is the 2013 NADA: http://www.nadaguides.com/RVs/2013/Jayco/M-36-KPTS/6024711 Al & Sharon 2006 Winnebago Journey 36G 2020 Chevy Colorado Toad San Antonio, TX http://downtheroadaroundthebend.blogspot.com/
Gypsy Traveler
OMG Al Florida, you're right! I don't see anything under 2012 but it shows under 2013. This is interesting. I signed the paperwork today and it still says 2012. I'm waiting for insurance to call tomorrow so I'll see what he says. Thanks! Al F
Here is a link to the Jayco.com website with a brochure for the 2012 Pinnacle's and the brochure does NOT list a KPTS model. jamtracy
If you change the number in the link to a 13 then it shows up as a 13. I would have to agree that it is a 2013 model. Did you go ahead with it? What was the outcome? James 2024 GMC 3500HD DRW Denali Diesel 2019 Keystone Avalanche 396BH USN Retired
Gypsy Traveler
We bought it. We just loved it so much. It met all our needs. We got it for $57K which included them installing electric leveling jacks. I think that also includes the sliding hitch for our truck. Next week we have to go back and have them put in a combo washer dryer and a few solar panels. They should have it for another month. In the meantime, our truck is on the Ford assembly line about 8-12 weeks out. AND, the house goes on the market this Thursday. We are getting all the ducks in a row! Gypsy Traveler
It's not a stock Ford off the line, it's being beefed up with different gears and an air ride stabilty system.... Plus.....(We're Ford people) Not a Dually though. I'd give those rear fenders 1 week before my husband hit something! I'd inquired with a LOT of people and they all assured me our set up will tow. If not........there's going to be BIG trouble!! bigjim
I have been fulltiming since Nov.96 w/2 different travel trailers. I thought I was fairly savy but today I weighed my truck full of gas and most of the stuff I usually carry. Then I looked in the owners manual and got the GCWR-(gross combined weight rating) The GCWR is how much your tow vehicle and your trailer are supposed to top out at fully loaded. Now I know for sure what I have always suspected. I have been running overloaded by a wide margin all this time. If you really do the math on weights and get the correct weights you will be very surprised whether you are 5thW or TT. Maybe the same on the different motorized rv's. I would be willing to bet cash money if there was anyway to prove it that most rv's are overloaded and by more than a little. I would like to see people issued a notorized statement from any salesman and dealer backed by a big bond to cover any accident caused by their statements about what will safely and legally tow what. All you folks out there might want to stay clear of me even though I have managed to do a good job of towing and stopping all these years and I will try and steer clear of the majority of other rv'ers. The last sentence here is tongue in cheek type of meant to be funny.
