  1. Have worked for both companies. Sir Vayor is right in the assumption that SCC is for the part timer. And Heath is a job...they are willing to work with you on moving around...all depends on the contracts. This is also true with SCC...the only difference is that if there is no job to go to you are on your own. Heath does expect a worker and the equipment is better than SCC on detecting leaks. Both companies believe that if you feel you are in danger to best walk away and tell the gas company you could not gain access. Heath pays better and has better benefits...SCC is geared for the part time worker.
  2. A transmission line is a high pressure line that feeds from the storage facility to the lower pressure lines that are for the different distribution lines. They range as little as a mile to 45+ miles. These lines are every where. From my understanding SCC is no longer using new employees for (team) transmission work. They say they are full. This is where the wife or significant other would help. They are still looking for distribution line surveyors though. If you would like to know about other companies that also do this kind of work and possibly better benefits pm me and I will try to help.
  3. Tom Burr, Paul is one of the nicest guys. Finished training in June and then went up to Temple to be with Jim Briggs, another really good guy, full of good tips and knowledge. Hope you are doing well, sounds like you are in the distribution side, DW and I are in the transmission side; all good things in this company.
  4. jwalker, Is the Paul you refer to in Round Rock, TX area? If so, DH is in week 4 and really enjoying the job. As far, as Bham well, it is a muggy hot, kinda like it can get in TX. The only thing I did not like about Bham was the night tornados. Being from the midwest, KS; area most tornados happened before dark. But as far as the amenities (?) Bham had quite a few stores, etc. Never went hungery, probably should have though . This job fits in perfectly with our chosen lifestyle. And the people are really great, probably the first time in a long time can really say working for someone else is good. We still have our ice cream trailer on the side, extra income. And Gene and SCC are ok with this, GREEEAAAT! Well gotta go, hope to be reading from fellow gas surveyor's .
  5. B'neath the Rainbow; We have been in Round Rock for about 1 week, rain, rain, rain, hey but at least we are working. We do have our trailer with us and are getting it ready for the 4th of July Celebration in Erath, LA. This is pretty big event. This company is so great they are allowing us to work and do the ice cream. How we have worked everything out is to the fact that we only do our best shows and then give SCC our undivided attention in between shows. So funny your call name is B'neath the Rainbow....we have 3 Toto's Our trailer looks like a red barn - Lil'Red Barn . We also do Amite, LA and the grand daddy - Beaumont, TX (South Texas State Fair - Oct). We also have dipped cheesecake, smoothies, etc., ok now I am hungry...gotta go
  6. I can't believe that it has only been one month since I first asked Bob where to apply. But hey, DH trains monday YEAH Going to Round Rock, TX for at least 4 weeks. This company is so great that we will be able to do our Ice Cream trailer and work for SC . Well enuff fun on the net...THANK YOU BOB!!!! Gotta travel, hope to see ya'll down the road.
  7. Bob, you don't know how happy or at least hope that you have given me. On this Sunday, April 15, 2007; I had really almost given up hope on ever being able to work. I have been trying to get a second job to help with bills... We own our vending business that we do in the summer months, it does well, just need to be able to keep the savings coming in. We will run off the application, look over, fill out and then should send in? As far as 5th wheel,,,need to think about parks in area of work? Or need generator? We have worked together for 17 years, fast food/trk drving/vending at fairs, etc. I guess that we like each other . Well if you can give any advice I'M READY!!
