Luxe 5th wheel by Augusta RV

With Excel closing down another quality builder is gone, so would the experts here take a look at this brand and point out the pros & cons to the way they build and components they use. Just looking ahead towards a future purchase and weighing out our options. If the mega millions or the power ball would cooperate it would not be hard to choose but until then thanks for the help and info you all provide.

I have been watching the Luxe by Agusta for about a year now. I really like the looks of them, but unfortunately they do not have any kind of presence on the west coast so I have not seen one in person to give it a real look. I like what they are trying to do, but I don't know enough about them at this time to make a real decision.

AS noted, the site list generalities and no real meet for the units design. They need to add information on the frame, wall and ceiling construction.

Saw a couple Luxe's in Tampa. Build quality looked great. In one of the models there was a lose leaf binder that went into all the construction details. I thought that I would be able to go to the website when I got back and get those details but the website had nothing like that info. I hope that they will expand the website to include construction details as the trailer itself looks like a candidate for a higher end full timer without having to go into the $200,000 range of a custom build.

Ok bringing back a old thread I visited the Augusta factory that makes the Luxe & now also the Ambition, a step below. I was very impressed with them and their staff, they say they are trying to compete at the Elite Suite level and have a MSRP at close to $150,000. They will be at the Hershey show next month but without a dealer to represent them. When we visited the factory they did offer us a rather nice direct price well under a hundred grand, compared to the msrp I thought was a nice offer, but right now we do have something else in the works or we probably would have ordered. We will be watching their progress and hope they live up to THEIR expectations.

I'll be interested in seeing the Luxe again at the Tampa show. I looked them over closely last year. They are nice, but I thought an Elite was better done. I'm sure they have improved since then. Like many RVs - more flash than infrastructure. But that is the nature of the game in that market segment.

We plan to be at the Tampa show for 2016 and will look at the Luxe (just because we like to look!!). I was surprised this year to see Winnebago with a fifth wheel and the Presidential by HR gone.

Always changes in the RV industry...especially for quality "non-custom" fifth wheels.

On the surface the Luxe appears to have some nice features but lacking a little on capacity of holding tanks, inverter, axles & such.

I know they are using the Mor Ryde 8,000 IS with disc brakes & 17.5 inch wheels, also went to a wide body. 12 inch I Beam with a 2" tube also a hung wall construction. They made some other changes that at present I do not have.

Well my wife and I went to La Mesa in FL to look at them and she loved the design. I bit the bullet and purchased one at the beginning of July. So far so good. No major problems, happy with purchase so far.

Keep us informed please. You are the only one I know of with one.

LF 40 RE. Of course that is the one that seems to have disappeared in 2016, replaced by a 42 RE with a different bedroom and bathroom layout. But I really like the layout I have, complete with two salad bowl sinks. Had some problems with the tankless water heater, but I understand they have gone to a different manufacturer due to this (I may upgrade mine to the new one). When it's working we love the endless hot water.

I've been looking at the 39 FB. I like a lot of its features. The one sticking point I have with it is the requirement to choose between an oven and a dishwasher (I want both).

I hadn't been to there website in a couple of months, I see it has been changed/updated to allow you to build your unit virtually. That is a nice feature. Now I can't tell if the dishwasher still deletes the oven though.

I also liked that model, but DW prefered the 40 layout. I have the dishwasher in my island, no regular oven, but convection microwave and induction cooktop. She got used to the convection oven after 10 years in our Elite Suite, and we have been cooking for years on our Nu-Wave induction units (love them).

For most people, unless you are a real "baker", the convection microwave - assuming it is a top line unit - is easily sufficient for cooking. Our current GE Profile Cafe does a great job even on 120 volt power.

My wife loves the convection oven. Its a more precise heat, compared to the standard rv gas oven. Ours is a standard residential size Sharp Carousel Convection Microwave. She fit an 18lb turkey in it, and has done most normal bakery items, pies, cheese cake, etc with zero issues.

Convection microwaves and induction cooktops are nice. We have used both. The problem for us is they require power and we spend a lot of time at places without power. We don't want to have to run a generator to cook, and sometimes we can't due to late meals and quiet hours (I am a bit of a night owl). For these reasons we like/need a gas oven. Everyone is different, which is why life is so interesting. ;)

If anyone is in or near the Hershey area this weekend Augusta RV has 3 Lux and 4 Ambition units at the show on display, also the Co. president will be there over the weekend, spoke with them yesterday and they want your thoughts and or suggestions on what they have or could make even better.

We took a fast look at the Luxe and Ambition units yesterday. Interiors are pretty, but not sure they meet what we are looking for. We'll spend more time there getting down to the deeper infrastructure and systems questions later today.

The "new" 5er that has really impressed us is the updated New Horizons Summit. New Horizons is clearly aiming at the old Excel market line with a model a bit above the Excel's Limited line in quality (and of course price). It's a significant rework of the Summit line, going to the same width as the Majestic and refreshing the interior. It's looking to be well below the Majestic line in price while maintaining the same quality. Less customization, simpler interior details, clear quality. We spent several hours exploring the trailer and discussing features with them over the last two days. It's by far our favorite of the show.

Yes, the lower price Majestic with some of the "stuff" removed should do well. It is targeted to make the decision between a DRV Elite and the New Horizon a no brainer. And I think it meets that target well. The infrastructure on a NH is pretty intense. For those that focus on that aspect the new offering should be pretty compelling.

The Augusta has significantly higher quality cabinetry than the DRV. They are also much more open to customization than DRV, at least at this point. DRV seemed to be much more "these are the choices we have" attitude. I also spent an hour with Cole from New Horizons. The whole family are really down to earth and straight shooters. My thought is they won't be able to compete on price with DRV or Augusta but they have extended there customer base with the new Summit and they offer greater "value" if they are within your budget. Just my opinion.
