Received email from Dish Network yesterday!

Recommended Posts

Is Dish Network in the process of discontinuing their VIP 722 DVR? I have been using a 722 for about 9 years with a 1000.2 WA dish and have been very happy with it and it feeds only 1 TV for us by our choice.

Received email from Dish yesterday asking me to call and schedule an appointment for a technician to come out at no cost and "replace one or more of your receivers, adjust your satellite dish, or do both. As we continue to upgrade technology, it is required at times that we make adjustments to your equipment to ensure a better TV experience for you."

"There will be no additional cost associated with any of theses changes."

Are they wanting to install a Hopper in it's place? If so, I'm not sure I want one as the 722 works just fine for our needs and the monthly DVR fee for it is not as much as the Hopper but they did say "No additional cost......".

Looking for opinions from you who are experts before calling Dish.

Besides the 722, do you have one of these DISH receivers: 301, 501, 508, 510, 1000, 1500, 2700, 2710, 2712, 2812, 2800, 3000, 3100, 3120, 3200, 3500, 3700, 3722, 3750, 3800, 3822, 3900, 3922, 4000, 4100, 4500, 4700, 4722, 4900 and 4922?

If so, DISH "retired" them yesterday, so you would need to replace it (but not the 722 as 722s are not being retired).

If not, it's probably DISH trying to get you to upgrade.

Since you've been with DISH for 9 years, they really don't want you to go away. Try for a Hopper 3 -- without a 2-year contract. Doubtful, but worth a try.

Call DISH. Ask for a Customer Retention Specialist. Tell them you would be glad to upgrade to a Hopper 3, but no 2-year contract. If they won't let you do that, tell them thanks but I'll keep my 722 . . . or if you're feeling spicy, say "I've been thinking about DirecTV, what can you offer me?" Worth a try.

However . . . they may want to upgrade your 722 foe some other reason . . . ???

Call DISH to find out.

Just got off phone with Dish. I was told that they needed to change me to the EA LNB. When I asked why they said I would get a better picture. I replied that I have both WA & EA LNBs and knew how to use both which ever was necessary and I have been getting an excellent picture 99% of the time using the WA LNB.

They said OK, just disregard email and continue as I have been doing. They did not offer upgrade to Hopper and I did not ask because I am happy with the 722. As Zulu said, they must have been trying to entice me into an upgrade at a higher cost and new contract.

Well, I heard from Dish again. They sent me another email and a card by snail mail asking me to call in and schedule an appointment for them to come out and repoint my dish to the eastern arc birds. When I called in I asked the lady if they would make it worth my time for screwing up one of my days by giving me a free upgrade to a Hopper3 and was told no. I asked to speak with a supervisor who also told me no but transferred me to a retention specialist. After a rather pleasant discussion with him about my being a long term customer and the fact that they didn't want me to change to Direct TV and were sorry for my having to deal with a technician coming out he agreed to a free upgrade to the Hopper3 while the technician is here. He also agreed to a $20 per month bill credit for 12 months to help with the additional $8 per month DVR fee they charge for the Hopper vs the VIP722 I currently have. BTW I did not have to agree to a new contract, can leave any time with no penalty. Am feeling much better after the call! :D

Kudos! I'm pretty sure you'll like the H3.

Renewing a contract will be a deal breaker for me. I will not be manipulated by them. There are other options.

The issue with EA changeover will affect some. Changing hardware for free is something to consider. Disk drives do not last forever.
