Just a guess but I'd bet 15 years ago that almost all, if not all, "drinking water safe" hoses were white. You used the hose color to tell the difference.
Hose fittings are made with a little bit of lead which leaches out into the water. A hose that is "drinking water safe" doesn't have fittings with lead.
Today, "drinking water safe" hoses are made in a multitude of colors and styles and are labeled "drinking water safe".
I've had white ones, blue ones and now Zero G grey ones, all labeled drinking water safe.
I just looked on Amazon, there are 7 pages of them in all styles and colors. Today is a different day.
