Canoe in Louisiana

Can I launch my canoe in any body of water in Louisiana?

Not sure exactly what you mean. I am sure there are many public access areas on bodies of water in Louisiana where you can launch a canoe. Corps of Enigineers facilities would be likely possibilities as would state parks and state wildlife management areas. If by "any", you mean every, I suspect the answer is no in regard to private property. Also in most states you can not trespass on private property even if it to access public property or navigable waters. Here is a link to the Louisiana boating regulations.

I am from Missouri and while we are here in South Louisiana I see lots of marshes and swamps, I don't really know one from another. I see many interesting water ways and have a canoe. So if I understand right, I need to always get out and find a home near by and ask permission?

Still seeing Places we have never seen before and others that we thought we would never see again!

Not necessarily, you may be able to legally can gain access from a public road right of way, bridge crossing, etc. if you do not have to cross private property to do so and the waterway is considered a navigable water way or state waters. I suggest that you talk to the local police/sheriff department, game/fish warden or some other that is familar with Louisiana's laws regarding water ways, public access and trespass.

.....and don't tip over. :o

One thing when you get in swamps, bayous things start looking the same and there are a lot of turns and dead ends. Be mindful on your navigation. Good luck!

We usually winter at Grand Isle (not too far from Betty's) and I ALWAYS bring my boat. Many public launch areas - some charge a fee and others are free. Many places you can launch from the side of the road BUT you need to be aware of private property versus public. The "navigable waterways" laws are confusing down there!

Seconds 2Gypsies comment about knowing where your going and how to get back. Really easy to get turned around out there in the marsh.
