Venturi vents, do they work?

I have read about them (sales info) and think they should work providing there is some sort of air movement. Does anyone have opinions? I am wanting to have them installed at my next visit to the Factory. I had asked about them with the build, but it didn't happen and I didn't push it then. I think I want them now. There does have to be a one way vent to allow air in to have outflow. How does that happen?

I considered getting one of these vent covers when we had problems with tank odor getting inside the trailer. I had the same concern that you brought up; the only way that the vent cover could remove odor was if there was a separate air inlet for the tank. Since there is no designed-in air inlet it led me to conclude that the only reason they "work" is because there are, somewhere, unintended air-leaks that allow air to get from the inside of the RV into the waste tank. So basically the vent cover is only providing a low pressure draw of air out of the tank and therefore causing air from inside the RV to "leak" into the tank rather than "leak" out of the tank and into the RV. After much consideration and then several experiments I eliminated the unintended air leaks and the problem was solved without adding any sort of venturi vent cover. And furthermore this solved the problem without relying on air flowing through the venturi. IMO the only real reason to have vents on the tanks is so that air can escape or enter as the fluid level in the tank rises or falls while either using the tank or dumping the tank. Odor inside the tank is a normal condition and it does not need to me removed.

I replaced a normal vent cover with one of these. I did not add a one way valve when I did it. Rod, what makes you think you need to add the one way valve? Maybe I failed to read the directions. It would not be the first time!

I wasn't saying it was in the instructions. I was just wondering how it would draw air out of the tank without a way for more air to come in. I'm sure it doesn't create a huge vacuum. I was wondering out loud (in writing) if a one way valve to allow air in should be installed and where.

Rod, you are not creating a vacumn, if that is your worry. All water solutions will degas over time, which is what you smell from black tank. Those bacteria you transfer from your nteestines keep on 'working' when in the black tank and gopive off by-products includingmethane, hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, water vapor, oxygen, and other gasses. By creating a Venturi effect those gasses will move up and out and will be replace by other gasses from the fluid in the tank.

I installed "360 Siphon" vents on both our previous and current coach with good results. It has no moving parts and a low profile that minimizes tree branch damage potential, as well as a built-in bug screen.

Also went to the 360 vent and it seems to provide a better lift on fumes then the stocker. The wind or breeze and on the road is suppose to cause a bit more draw.

I put 3-360 vents on my Country Coach. Work very well and do. To have any working parts. The REAL reason I did so,was to lower the vent stacks in order to install my solar panels across them. I had to pay attention to heights of my feet and brackets; but it gave me a LOT more usable real estate. (Thanks to Jack Meyer for the tip.)

If you install a one way (Check) valve you will create more problems. The tank breathes "Out:" as the tank fills and as temperature rises. It breathes "In" when the tank is dumped or the temperature drops. Preventing either of these functions will either pressurize the tank or create a vacuum preventing dumping of the contents.

We have the rotating kind of cap (Came with the rig) and the only downside is that on windy days it clunks as it spins. We are long used to it so it doesn't keep us awake at night now.
