newadventurers Posted January 14, 2016 Report Share Posted January 14, 2016 I have been trying to follow the posts regarding health insurance and don't remember seeing too much for South Dakota. We domiciled there in September 2015. An insurance agent told us the Wellmark/Blue Cross and other agencies had gotten the PMB or address for the mail services in SD and stated they would not insure anyone with those addresses. The only options we were told was to get an EPO plan. The EPO plan is not an option as you can be penalized for out of network use. We are not interested in the HMO Plan as we don't spend much time in the five state area that you can be seen in. We do know about Liberty HealthShare, but don't know anyone who is using it and what they have to say. I do know that it is not a health insurance company, and that you are ultimately responsible for your medical bills if they don't pay. My question is anyone having luck finding coverage for persons under 65 for SD?. I apologize in advance if this has already been addressed in another post. GlennWest Posted January 14, 2016 Report Share Posted January 14, 2016 We use Liberty and are very content with the coverage. We get yearly checkups coverage. Have used it and all was paid. Had PPO BCBS and it paid only yearly checkup and cost us dearly. Can't help you with insurance. We gave up on that and got Liberty Health Share. JRP Posted January 15, 2016 Report Share Posted January 15, 2016 Although I've been domiciled in SD since early retirement and I previously had private health insur through BCBS for 5 yrs; things changed drastically a few yrs back and the choices I had in 2008 are no longer available, and I've only been able to stay based in SD due to reaching 65 and going on Medicare. Many of the under 65 SD fulltimers needing private medical insur were forced to "move" to other states and that's why you're not getting a lot of responses. Unfortunately the shortage of national PPO coverage has now moved from just SD to TX, Fl and many other states, in some states it varies by County. Another good source for answers to your questions is Kyle Henson who runs this web site https://www.rverinsurance.com/ and frequently replies here. But this time of year is his busiest, trying to get everyone signed up during the open enrollment timeframe. I had a high deductible plan through Coventry until the ACA laws took effect. Now I'm with Avera through the Health Insurance Marketplace.
