Hi folks...been doing a bit of checking around for boondocking in the San Rafael Swell and we see on maps a sight near Goblin State Park in Utah. This site is in the canyon just north of Goblin.....looks like a big area. Has anyone here ever boondocked in that area?

Cheers. Jim

There are several BD spots on the way into Goblin SP. When you leave hwy 24 you go 4-6 miles west and take a sharp turn to the south. Within the first mile or two going south there are several good level spots on the west side of the road.

BTW, if you subscribe to Days End there are 25 or more BD spots in the San Rafael Swell area. We have stayed in several of them over the last 5-6 years, including the spot on the way into Goblin SP.

There are plans to increase the size of Goblin Valley Park so I dont know if that work has begun or not.

We stayed there last October. When you go west on Temple mount you will come to an information board on the right side where you can pull off the road. The road to the left of that is Goblin valley which takes you down to the state park. If you continue on Temple Mt you will come to a large parking area on the left as you enter the rock formations. I see that you have a large MH so I would pull in there and scout the area from there. If you continue on past the parking lot area there is a wash that goes over the road and had some damage when we were there but it was passable with my FW. You can only go a mile or so iirc and there will be a camping area on the right. It looked to me to be more for tents but I did see people in there with TT. I went back that far with a 30 FW and was able to turn around. On my way back out I pulled down off the road on the left side which would be north. The spot I pulled off into had a sharp drop off at the edge of the pavement and was a bit of a challenge to get out of. If I go back there I will just stay in the parking lot or out more to the grass side of the rock formations. I also wouldn't go back there if it has rained because the pavement ends.

When you are at the info board and you look to the south west which is the corner that the parking lot is in, you will see rigs that are east of the parking lot at the edge of the rocks and grass flats. If you go left on Goblin Valley state park road you will also see those same rigs to your right. So.....if you are at the info board and you look to the north west you may also see some rigs off in the rolling grassy areas before the rocks but it is rougher over there. Your rzr will like trail 1015 just before the info board that goes north ish and takes you back through a tight canyon and on to an old mining camp. It's a tight fit between the rock walls but I went through there with my 3500 4x4. It goes back by Temple Mountain.

Across from that farthest in campground there is 1016 that goes to the south and ends at a parking area and then you can hike into the rock canyons. If you go south toward Goblin valley sp you will come to Wild Horse /1013 that takes you back to a parking area an hiking trail into the rocks on the left/north. Iirc it's not big rig area.

If you zoom in on Goggle earth you can see each of these places.

Thanks RJXJ....wow that was a good answer. The area you are describing is exactly what I was looking at on google earth. Your pictures confirmed the urge to get there and ride. We will definitely stay at the parking lot for the first night and do some exploring.

Cheers. Jim
