rvrev2
I was in Smith Center, KS today (where the Excel plant is located). The town is still in shock. This came right out of the blue. Peterson Industries (maker of Excel) is the largest employer in the town. Their closure comes on the heels of another local business closure. Being a small town, both of these closures is really hitting the town hard. I don't know what this will mean for NUWA, as Excel was making the HitchHiker for them. This closure takes out two, great quality fifth wheel manufacturers. A sad day indeed. 2002 NuWa HitchHiker II 31 FKTG, Onan Generator, HWH Levelling, RVFlexArmor roof 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500 Crew Cab, Long Bed, SRW, 8.1L B&W Companion Fifth Wheel Hitch Me and Mama and the fur-kid: Prince - chihuahua-pug mix

TXiceman
Yep, NuWa and Excel were two very solid manufacturers. This basically leaves Mobile Suites, DRV in the price range, but DRV was just purchased by Thor. Hopefully, Thor will not follow suite and cheapen the line as they have on so many others that they acquired. Redwood and Heartland would like to think they build a trailer in the same market that Excel and NuWa just left, but they do not. Kirk W
There still isn't much new about what will happen but it doesn't look like the company will continue in any form. I can't find anything about their assets being sold or for sale but it does look as though they closed in order to prevent a future bankruptcy from happening. The first story that I read was this one from RV Business published on March 20. Since that there has been very little but I did find this story released today from KD94 news, but really has nothing much new to disclose. Good travelin !...............KirkFull-time 11+ years...... LindaH
According to ExcelRVGuy's (Bryan Tillett, who is/was the President of Peterson Industries) letter on the Excel Forum on the IRV2 forums, they tried to find an investor or a buyer and weren't successful.
