Hitch prices?

Darkhorse

Recommended Posts

Is there a policy on the site to not discuss hitch pricing? Searched all over and didnt see any discussion. If not can anyone enlighten me on the E.T. and ET super senior? What is the difference? What are the costs? Also any info on the airsafe 25k omni and 32k would be great. All of these air hitch places seem to guard their pricing, it seems very counter-business to me. Nothing against ET products but they are in the stone age business wise. The product is great (hitches and Jackolopee) but no paypal or credit cards? No website ordering? Check only sent by snail mail...they are missing alot of business.

There are rules against commercial activities on these websites and for good reasons. The technical differences and aspects of products are discussed all the time.

ET Sr. is designed to handle trailers with pin weights up to 6.500 lbs. and weights up to 24,000 lbs

ET. Super Sr. was designed to handle the new "super rigs" with pin weights up to 9,000 lbs and weight close to 30K

The maximum ratings often stated on hitches is meaningless. There is a critical mass and mass distribution in fifths that makes a fifth (particularly heavy or custom fifth) a well designed and balanced rig or not. Proper pin weight should be 25% of the overall weight and no less than 20%. On heavy rigs often the pin weights are more than 25% and the hitch should be able to handle it.

Installed an ET last year and completely satisfied with the unit and service and support from the manufacture. Its as simple as contacting them and they will be sure to provide you with the same great service as everyone else has got. You will not regret the ET if it fits your needs.

Can't go wrong with the ET or the Jackolopee.

I don't think the manufacture and designer needs to advertise he gets more business than he can handle by word-of-mouth IMO.

I'm sure the reason he only takes checks is because it's keeping his cost down and is able to pass the savings onto all of us.

As far as customer service anytime I've ever had a question I've had extremely fast response.

The designers is on this form on a daily basis. but as stated there are strict rules about selling or advertising products on this forum.

I know that sending a check in the mail is old-school but trust me the service is well worth it and he can be completely trusted.

I've known the developer/manufacturer of the ET Hitch and Jackalopee as a participant on the Escapees Forums since prior to the time that either of those products have been publically available, and personally since shortly after I bought my ET Hitch. I've never known him to be anything less than a perfect gentleman, and his character is beyond reproach. If knowledge were capital, he could probably buy and sell many of those of us that regularly participate here -- and in some cases, myself included, he could do so with many of us collectively.

As far as the ET series of hitches are concerned, they are almost certainly the best available anywhere, and I can confidently say that you'll never regret the money that you'd spend on one. There have been many posts here over the years by folks that said "I wish that I'd bought an ET instead of the "insert product name here" that I bought instead (or "that my truck hadn't come with a Brand X already installed"), but I don't recall ever seeing a post that said "I'm sorry that I didn't save a few bucks by buying a lesser hitch".

He is not "check only". At last years rally in Hutch, he gladly accepted my cash :) And that was after he delivered and installed my hitch upgrade for no addition cost.

There is no better hitch available that I know of for heavy trailers. It is well worth the money in my opinion. It is pretty easy to find out about the ET family of products. Simply call Henry and ask him. There is contact info on the website.

About the cost......there are cheaper hitches out there. If you hve a light 5er they may do the job for you very well. But if you are hauling heavy the ET is the preferred product. There are places to be frugal, and places where money is well spent. The ET is one of those places where money is well spent.

When an innovative design/build enterprise is not all "web based", but actually requires you to make human contact somewhere along the process before you get to buy their goods, that is a "yup" check mark in my decision making process. :)

As I recall it was a "community installation" with number of people contributing ideas, tools and muscle trying to remove one stubborn bolt.

Another new guy here so take that for what it's worth; but no one answered the OP's question. Yes there was a great outpouring of support for a manufacturer but still no one mentioned cost involved. I came to this forum because I was told about the wealth of knowledge here and indeed my leaning curve has been vertical. However, something as simple as hitch cost should be openly discussed in a forum context. Is this forum a support system for a particular manufacturer or is it for the dissemination and sharing of relevant information? I can say that I myself don't need a super secret hitch but I do need to be able to make informed decisions. The only way I can do that is if I have all the info. If I have to call all over creation just to find various costs then why are we here? I'm a member of quite a few on-line forums for various automotive interests and while I've seen the group gaggles for certain manufacturers in other places, I've never seen a refusal to discuss prices before. Since I essentially know no one here perhaps people here don't have to worry about costs and in that case I'm definitely in the wrong forum! ;)

Steve,

Hope I give you a ballpark answer. When I was looking for hitches, I looked at Trailersaver, ET, and believe one other that I can't recall now. Trailersaver was around $3500 + installation if I recall, ET around $4000+ installation, other $3500 + installation. This has been five years ago so prices may be more and as I said these are ballpark as I don't recall exact quotes. I definitely worry about costs but my research of design and build led me to the ET. I'm not stumping at all for the ET because I did not know Henry from Adam, it just suited my needs better for a little more money. Trailersaver would have been my second choice. Hope this helps. One other perk has been that I now know Henry personally and every rally he and I attend together, he looks at my hitch to make sure parts not wearing excessively and it is performing as it should. This is all free of cost.

On edit, I agree that price discussions should not be taboo. We discuss parts costs all the time and places to get parts cheaper. The forum rules only prevent manufacturers or salesmen from advertising or commercialism.

Guys: the answer is really simple. The MFG of the ET is basically providing a service to the HDT community, not trying to build a company. He is a valued commenter on here, and was already banned once for straying too "close to the line". So he's being careful, to say the least. And the rest of us don't want to give any false info about the prices. Just call and ask. Sure, its a pain, no online pricing, no VISA--on the flip side he'll take the check and trust you are good for it!

I do understand. I thought the same thing. Simple question, the thread took of at a tangent. Thing is--a lot of ET users on here that really love the product! Hope Suite's" ball park" above answered your question!

That is very close to the pricing I got at Christmas. I went with the TS because my trailer is quite light compared to most here my understanding is you won't get the full benefit of the ET with a light trailer. I don't understand why no pricing on the ET website. I could find TS pricing online and it was actually less than the posted price.

Without straying too close to the line there is one element that affects pricing worth knowing.

All hitches mounted in HDTs require some sort of mounting plate and means of mounting that plate to the semi frame, these are items that need to be purchased, machined and installed separately. On ET these (the base plate and the angles) are part of the hitch included in its cost.

Phone broken? In the time it took you to type this post, you coulda called the manufacturer and asked them direct. I bought a new car a year ago and paid about $15000. I have no idea what the exact cost was. Wanna know what it actually cost? Call Mercedes. If you really wanna know what an ET costs, call the manufacturer. They can provide you with the cost of the hitch, cost of shipping, and answer every other question you might have...thoroughly and completely. The manufacturer has read this thread...and not answered your question, in this forum. Maybe there is a good reason???

You miss the whole point. I wont point out the obvious as you have because we are all smart people here. I intended no dis respect or to start an arguement or to get people defensive. The hitch is awesome and from what I've read Phoenix2013 is a great guy and his wife answered my emails promptly, thoroughly and courteously.

Nobody is going to get their shorts twisted here for one simple reason the folks here are just "different". Going to a National HDT Rally

or an ECR Rally and meeting HDTers (and prospective HDTers) there,

is not like going to the meeting, it's like going to a family reunion. The reason why everyone wants to repeat this experience year after year is because I can honestly say that I haven't run into any "black sheeps" in this family. Even Big5er, who might come across a bit gruff now and then on this forum is a real teddy bear once you meet him in person. And he takes to personal ribbing quite well, we had an ample "opportunity" to do this when he suffered this "indignity" at the last Rally.

Note that he wrote his post at 5AM in the morning, I'm sure he didn't have his Dr. Pepper yet to "calm him down".
