East Coast Rally Website

Thanks to David's and others help the website registration has been updated to attempt preventing automatic "bot" registration on the site. I deleted nearly one hundred spammers from the site and unfortunately may have in my haste deleted some legitimate accounts. If you have registered, please check to see you are still a member, but if not, please re-register. I appreciate everyone's support of all the rallies (ECR, National, WCR) as we attempt to expand and spread the word about our way of RVing life.

Hopefully we've got it cleaned up a little better--no harm was being done, but it was definitely getting annoying with lots of notification e-mails from bogus people signing up. Didn't help that I was mostly out of touch for 3 days...

Georgia,

I made a slight tweak so that it's more clear that the name field is the name you want displayed if you comment/contribute something, and added a separate "Real Name" field that's optional, and private by default. You should be able to see that on your profile now.

One member has commented that they could not log in using Chrome. Maybe Nuke will devise a solution. Folks, I have to admit all this stuff is way above my pay grade so that's why I'm leaving it to David for his expertise. In fact think I'll give him a 10% raise in salary. What is 10% of zero? :)

Actually as an ideal, you shouldn't need anybody to log on, like the Resource Guide. Unless you have some need to control who is viewing the site.

Thanks Mark for the suggestion. Since the site is interactive and allows comments and replies would think we would need some control of who participates on the site. I have already had to delete one comment that was spam. Nuke any thoughts?

To Chrome users: I researched as best as my limited understanding would allow and it seems Captcha and Chrome have a history of incompatability issues mostly due to "chrome extensions" whatever that is. I did find one comment by a chrome developer who said they were rectifying the problem and that if you want to use Chrome then uninstall and re-install the latest version. Otherwise most comments said use IE or Firefox.

Again thanks to everyone for their suggestions and helpful hints as we develop this.

If you're just wanting to look at what's there, there's no need to register for anything. Registering just makes it easy for Carl to notify the group when new information goes up, and like he mentioned, allows a few interactive functions. The thinking is that since the site will likely be somewhat dormant for a good chunk of the year, an e-mail notification would be more effective than hoping that everyone makes a habit of checking in regularly.

The plan is also to have a sub-group for rally attendees each year, so that information can be passed along quickly when there are changes to the schedule (like this year, with a number of events moved because of rain).

I have no issues with the site, either, and I use Chrome.

My recommendation is to not use the registration fetures unless there is a compelling reason to. Most people will find out about Rally info on the forum and can then go to the site for additional details. The only really compelling reason I would see for a registration on the site is if you were going to allow online Rally registration through the site. That is something Gail and I have discussed but done nothing about (yet). But that would be a good reason for registration on the site.

Jack,

The intention is to do on line rally registration. David made that suggestion at inception. Just wanted to take some time to figure it out a bit.

Well, I'll be the 1st PITA. I registered a couple of days ago. Never got the promised email. Just tried to re-register a few minutes ago and naturally, all of my email and user id stuff comes back as "in use".

Can one of you admin types please reset my account please.

Paul,

I show you as active on the site and registered as adept99. Did you use a different sign-in name. The name on the site display is Paul & Paula. Try signing in as adept99. If that doesn't work let me know.

Yep, that worked. Chrome? maybe. Wouldn't work late last night or early this morning. Or possibly, but barely, I might have fat fingered something...

Thanks for the help.

Be jealous...just smoked a pork loin.

I've got smoked baby-back ribs to contribute. I always have a couple of racks in bags in the freezer, already smoked. I've also been known to work on Wordpress issues.... :)
