A sad day.

Today was a very difficult day. We had to finally put down our 16 year old Pomypoo Molly. I never want to do that again ...it tore me to pieces.

I'm sorry for your loss. They give you unconditional love and leave you with the greatest memories. We lost our beloved 15 year old Rio on Jan 1st this year while spending the winter in Palm Springs. It never gets easier but the memories do help as time goes on.

Jim and Linda,

So sorry to hear of your loss. I'll bet those 16 years were the happiest of Molly's life. Just keep reflecting on all the wonderful times you had together. Dennis and Mary K

I had to do this way to many times. But its better than making them suffer. Wish we could do that for ourselves when we get to that point in life. I sometimes call it being selfish to the animal by keeping them around longer than we should because we don't want them gone. But at any rate when I see this type of post I always send this little piece in hopes that it will help in some very small way.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Sorry for your loss. BTDT many times and it sucked each time. Have a 13-yr old dog and 14-yr old cat now. I will be surprised to get another year out of either of them. Once they're gone, we are taking a break from pets for a while. Had at least one pet (usually 2 or more) for the past 30+ yrs.

Thanks everyone. We had been hoping that she would pass on her own but no such luck. Its terrible seeng them go limp in the vet's office. She was in bad shape but actually having a good day yesterday and my wife gave her her favorite treat...some salmon. All the way to the vets we are asking are we doing the right thing all the while knowing that she was in pain and not having a much of a life anymore......I guess there is no easy way to do it.

Thanks again all.

We have not had a pet for the last 3 years. The last time was so hard when the end came. This is the first time in 56 years of marriage that we have not had at least one dog. At my age, 76, a dog would likely out last me , so we enjoy pets that our friends have. Our lives have been richer for the pets we did have. We share you grief.

So sorry for your loss. Focus on the good memories. We have to think about their quality of life.

When we went fulltime 4 1/2 years ago we had 2 dogs and 2 cats. The cats were brother and sister. The animals were all older. Our big girl's back half wasn't working properly and she was near 13. We put her down 8/6/14 and cried like babies for days. On 10/30/14 our small dog was diagnosed with cancers and we put her down. We believe she was near 14. On 12/11/14 the girl kitty was diagnosed with cancers and we put her down. She was near 15. My Dad passed a way on 1/17/15. A very rough time in our lives.

We decided no more pets while we traveled. On 3/9/15 while traveling in Baja Mexico a 10lb. brown puppy came into our lives. She is 27lb. of energy now and brought us so much happiness. The boy kitty is 16 and in good health. He is the boss in the rv.

We plan to travel a couple more years fulltime then be more seasonal after we buy a S&B.

Hang in there.

Very sorry for your loss. We had the experience last week with our little friend ( Scout the Bull Terrier) she was only 2 1/2 but ate part of a Sago Palm. The first thing the Vet asked about was Sago Palm and we had no idea what he was talking about. Well the nature park we are in has them and when questioned they had no idea that they were poisonous. Did not make it any easier for us. But I will be looking for her at the Bridge.

  • 2 weeks later...

We put our 110 lb black lab down about 4 years ago. He had his last ride in the back seat of the car and fell asleep on the way to the vets. We asked the vet to administer the shot in the car and he agreed. Jake woke up, looked at the vet and went back to sleep. I told the wife on the way home, that is how I want to go, lucky dog.
