You mean rather than our "FORMER" backyard in the picture? Yep, no S&B any more, so it's always campgrounds from here on out - just like most of us...

I knew that...just making sure you were at Princeton.... :)

Currently in Williams, AZ. Trying to decide whether to leave the relative comfort of 98-100 degrees and head for the 110-114 temps at Las Vegas. Really don't want to be here for 10 more days, even though the park is nice enough. Last section of Route 66 to be bypassed by I-40. Went out on Crookton road today to look at the tourist trap. I don't recommend the cuisine. Meals, if you eat out in Williams, can be a little pricy. Grocery stores aren't much better. Typical 12oz package of Oscar Mayer bacon is $10.99

Ā

Anybody got a recommendation for a place to stay around Las Vegas?

How about around Monterrey Bay? Best I could do is out around Gilroy.

Thanks

I don't know of any campground to suggest but, I would head to Flagstaff. It is warm days but cools off nicely it is also very dry. Striking distance to Vegas, the river and, of course the Grand Canyon. Sedona is nice, it is a bit weird for my taste!

In Vegas during the winter we stay at the Clark County Shooting Complex. However it's just a large parking lot basically. No pool or amenities and NOT lick of shade.

We postponed our trip to Alaska until next summer. We had several delays, the last of which was a wind damaged awning. We should be able to head up much earlier and stay longer next year.

Ā

We left Ohio a week ago, after having the awning replaced in Elkhart, we spent a few days in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore area of Michigan. Yesterday, we crossed the Mackinac Bridge, the longest suspension bridge between anchorages in the Western hemisphere, into the Upper Peninsula. We are now parked at Tiki RV Park in St. Ignace. (probably not recommendable for HDT) Tomorrow, we will take our bicycles on the ferry to Mackinac Island.

Decided on "Hitchin' Post Rv Park" just North of Las Vegas. Seems like the largest sites and manager seems nice on the phone. We'll see.

Ā

Had a visit from the brother of someone on the forum. Brother's name (the one here) is Jim, didn't catch the wife's name, and didn't get the other brother's handle, but they were nice enough to stop by and let us know what we were getting into in Vegas. Seemed to think the park we chose was pretty good. Thanks.

Ā

Does anyone have specific knowledge of Hwy 1 (Pacific Coast Hwy) headed north from Morro Bay. So far can't find any overt restrictions, but they are referred to several times. I figure we would be pushing the length limit but only in a few places. And cursed soundly for those unlucky few souls trapped behind us.

Driving Hwy 1 (PCH) north from Morro Bay to Carmel. Is a sweet ride -- okay for us many times, at 64' it's no biggie!

Raymond and I are about 40 miles South of Duluth, MN, for an undetermined length of time. Waiting on a new Dometic AC to arrive and on a 2 weeks wait list for Service of a few other things. Having fun exploring this area! Got our $3 parking pass so we don't get in trouble when we go Agate hunting. LOL Duluthboats.com give all of the arrival and departure times of the HUGE ships that come in to Ports @ Duluth, MN, Superior, WI, and Two Harbors, MN....and that's always interesting. Weather is mid 70s and low 50s at night.

Ā

We, too, have pretty much decided to stay in the USA the rest of the Summer (instead of going back to finish exploring Canada). But, now, we are thinking of hanging around Lake Superior and over toward Upper Peninsula of MI before we head West for the Winter. BOOKED at Cherry Creek State Park so we can spend time with our daughter 14-27 September. LONG overdue visit.

Safe Travels to all.

Ray and Janet, jags1fan, we spend a fair amount of time up there on the north shore. Two Harbors is nice and they have a nice campground right in the town. But, Grand Marais is our favorite. It's a great little town. They have a municipal campground right there in town, on the lake. Great restaurant right almost next to the campground called "The Angry Trout." Very good food. Ben Franklin store has great selection of all the things you didn't know you wanted. Sven & Olie's has good pizza. All sorts of great little shops.

We are in a beautiful site about seven miles up the Rogue River from the coastal Oregon town of Gold Beach. We are on the river with a small meadow between our site and the water. From our dining table we watched a great blue heron catch dinner. We will be here two weeks. This is the first WiFi we have had in six weeks, mostly due to the remote places where we stayed.

Ā

We left our home in Glendale, AZ in mid May and have yet to see another HDT pulling a 5th wheel. However, we are happy to report that we have had no problem in locating RV parks that can accommodate us, even in remote areas like Crater Lake National Park, Oregon.

In Greenfield CA for a few more days at Yanks RV Resort. Really a nice park. All paved roads, concrete sites, concrete patio, up to 100' pull thru (like we're in) so you can have the toter, trailer, and smart all in the same place. Really well done. What's the catch? Well, some time within a few minutes of 4:00 PM, the wind will blow. Not talking a breeze here, I mean the wind blows like you're standing on the bow of a ship turned into the wind in a Nor'easter. Every day... and it's a bit pricey. That didn't bother us much, but at 4:00 PM, you're going to come in, so no cooking outside, no lawn furniture, no flags, nada. You can catch up on your reading.

Ā

Next Thursday we leave for Forestville where we will be staying at the lovely Sonoma County Fairgrounds for about a week visiting friends.

We are in Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Campground (Anoka County Park) just north of Minneapolis MN for the holiday weekend to visit a niece and some friends we made a couple winters ago at the SKP park in Bushnell. FL. Current plans for the rest of July is to spend a couple weeks in Badlands and Black Hills of SD, then to Glacier for a week before spending the month of August outside the West entrance to Yellowstone.

Cathy and Jim, be sure to pass through Sioux Falls and make the trip to the Falls. It's not an all day visit type of place but worth the stop in my mind. I was on my Motorcycle for my visit so I can't really say for sure that you will be good to go in your rig. There is a parking lot for RV's and bus traffic at the East end and the roads were marked either "Primary or Secondary Truck routes" leading in and away. It was real busy on a Sunday but the next morning after I finished at the Drivers License office there was plenty of parking.

Rod,

Ā

Cathy and I flew to Sioux Falls on separate dates to set up our domicile. I enjoyed walking around the falls area when I was there. I learned when I was there that I didn't need to rent a car like I did, so when Cathy went she got the free airport shuttle to motel that is next door to DMV, then after she got her SD driver's license the next morning, she took the motel shuttle right back to airport and missed seeing the falls. Maybe we can stop on the way through so she can see too. It almost seems required if we are truly SD residents!

Had my son and daughter in law not mentioned it a few days before my trip I probably wouldn't have made the trip to see them. Will go back some day when I have more time to really walk around the park . I just did a quick loop, read some of the info and headed back to Iowa.

We're in Spearfish SD in the Northern Black Hills now. Been here a week and maybe another week or so as we are still waiting for some documents to come in from the dealers that sold us our Car and 5th Wheel. We're staying at Chris's Campground at Exit 14 just east of Spearfish about 2 miles. We are just beginning to see the sights for our first time and will hit the area hard after the holiday weekend crazies are gone. Nice park here and HDT friendly. Full hookups and some large pull thru spaces too.
