Keeping in touch-Class of 2006

Next January it will be 10 years since a group of us met at Quartzsite and had a great time. We are planning on returning to Quartzsite next year and wonder how many of the class of 2006 would be interested in a reunion.

Hi Classmates, I am still traveling and a fulltimer even though I have a permanent site at Jojoba Hills. I don't know if you remember Gail, but you were the one that initially told me about Jojoba Hills and actually taught me how to correctly pronounce it. I would be interested in an early 2017/late 2016 GTG at the Q. Keep us all informed please. Thanks.................mike

Voices from a bygone era. . . We continue to be "sometimers" now due to ongoing health concerns and having a stix 'n brix to be in when the weather is mild just south of Chicago; and now we have a 24ft Phoenix Cruiser 2400 Sprinter to get away from the cold times and seek the elusive 70 degree temperatures.post-4927-0-22023700-1484149385_thumb.jpg

Can't wait until you head out to AZ to spend a little bit of the winter. Got to see Joe & Nancy in November. Unfortunately, we are all getting just a 'tad' older and slowed down just 'a bit'.

Keith and I didn't follow up on the Q Reunion suggestion because we ended up with a volunteer position too far from there. Sweet deal for us, too. We are in the mountains above Malibu with a great view, friendly neighbors, and an office 20 feet away. We spend our days directing hikers, making sure all is as it should be, reading, and wandering on the internet. Perfect. This is our 14th volunteer position and we're not done yet. The next three are lined up already.

Mike, if you are still at Jojoba Hills, do you wander further north to Yuba City still? We will be hosting at Saddleback Butte SP after April 1.

Barb and Dave, will you be heading up to Oregon?

Hams, are you out west?

Anyone else out there?

We will head up the coast about the middle of April if we get all of the physician ordered tests, etc., done. Getting old isn't for the faint of heart. ;)

We have to be in Seattle by Memorial Day to take care of my mom while my sister does another 'quilting retreat' - a change for both of them.

We are at home in Homewood, Illinois while our new-to-us Phoenix Cruiser 2400 Sprinter is in a shop getting some new LED running lights and tire valve extenders so we can use a TPMS. Our cunning plan is to head west on Oct. 12th (the day after our new grandson's 1st birthday) and hole up across the street from Barb & Dave for a couple of months to help them empty some wine bottles and damage ourselves at breakfast joints. The on to Vegas and . . . . .?

Next Monday we will head for Tennessee to visit one of Suzanne's former theatre students who is now a high school theatre teacher himself. His school is producing "The Phantom of The Opera" and we will see that. After Tennessee, we will head to North Carolina to visit his and her relatives; then back home for a month; then to Houston, TX area for our other grandson's band concerts and our granddaughter's high school graduation (not bragging, but she is the class valedictorian). Then, back to Chicagoland in early June for summer on our new deck. . .former Texas residents enjoying mild summer temperatures while smoking ribs and pulled pork. It's a hard knock life!

Hey Gail and Keith, good to hear from you. I hangout in Jojoba much of the year but still travel about quite often. I plan to head north a number of times this year and could stop in at Saddleback en route. How long do you plan on being there? Maybe we could make a plan to hookup. Take care till then and cheers for now.....................mike

Thanks for the responses! It would be so great to get together with all of you. Lancaster CA is north of LA and south of US 58. We will check into suitable restaurants in case you are just passing through. The whole Antelope Valley is expecting wildflowers during April and May while we are there. Hope to see you.

You bet! All we need is a heads up as to when you will be here. I start the pork smoking at bedtime the night before the feast and it cooks all night. The closest RV park to us is 30 miles or so west in Joliet at the Hollywood Casino http://www.rvparkreviews.com/regions/illinois/joliet/hollywood-casino-hotel-rv-resort. We've stayed there a few times and it wasn't too bad. Water & electric and a dump station. Illinois Beach State Park is really nice-wooded, quiet, deer grazing and reasonably priced; but it is around 80 miles up the Tri-State Tollway from us. If you prefer stix 'n brix accommodations, we have a guest bedroom we call Traveler's Rest. It has photos we've taken on our trips hanging on the wall; and is attended to by two girl Cocker Spaniels, Scout and Sydney. We'll show you "Fawkes", our Phoenix Cruiser which is serving as a great way to downsize when it's "Sometimer" not "Fulltimer" time.

Jeff, glad to see you guys are still kicking! I think of you guys every time we pass Deming and remember the snowstorm we encountered there. All of a sudden we had clear skies and had to throw you guys out of the bus with your 1/2 cups of coffee and blast on down the road. What a day! I hope you are doing fine and taking trips in Fawkes! We are in Parker Arizona right now and enjoying the Colorado river floating past our windshield. Pretty soon we will be heading back to Oklahoma to see our kids and catch up with them. We sure we don't want to miss tornado season!! Happy travels Steve & Carol

Hey Steve! We remember that day fondly. That's what makes good rving memories. We have stopped in Deming in all three previous RVs we've owned, so we'll be stopping there in Fawkes, rv #4 on our western trip probably on our return in March 2018. We may be "Sometimers" now, but we stay out as long as our doctor appointments will allow! :-)

Physicians sure put crimps in our wandering the older we get.

We need our own M*A*S*H unit to follow us around.

Well, we keep moving. . .we are harder to hit that way!  Just got back from a 12 day trip to Montreal, Quebec to see the grand daughter settled into her dorm at McGill University.  Had a great time playing the "Kebecker" tourist refreshing our understanding of French language traffic signs.  Good thing Suzanne is a French teacher. . .saved my skin!

We will spend the next month getting Fawkes and our stix & brix ready for our 6 month escape from Chicagoland winter.  Heading for Mesa Oct. 8th for a more than two month stay just a few spaces down the street from Barbaraok and Dave at Val Vista RV Park.  Got some old hippie friends in Tucson we'll visit while we are in the area as well as some World of Warcraft buddies in Phoenix.  We are going to need the breakfasts that Barb, Dave, Suzanne and I go looking for around the Mesa area!  Oh, and wine to calm our fatigue!

Then on to Las Vegas for three weeks to visit our money left there over 49 years of wedded bliss and leave a little more to keep it company.  We'll then head to the Bay Area to visit some long lost family then head back to Chicagoland via Baytown, TX to see Amanda, Robert and Jean-Luc.  ♫♪♫ "We were born under a wandering star."♪♪♫

We are trying to stock up enough wine for Jeff & Suzanne's arrival.  It is hard work to go visit all of these wineries and then sample and have to pick ones we hope will satisfy their  palates.  Hard work, but we think we are up to the challenge. :D

BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!  We recently discovered Suzanne has to have her left knee replaced. She has been fighting the "knee wars" with injections and ibuprofen but the battle has been lost. We had to cancel our reservations at Val Vista RV Resort where we had a site just up the street from Barb and Dave O'Keeffe; and plans to visit our Tucson RV old hippie friends "JeffThe Younger" and Carol. The visions of great company, good wine and luscious breakfasts have gone "poof"!

But, this cunning plan will resurrect next year with an added feature: our 50th Wedding Anniversary redo celebration in Las Vegas by none other than "Elvis" himself. We will spend Thanksgiving renewing our vows (as if needed) with all our kids & grandkids there; hopefully some brothers and families; and best of all any of our RV family who might be in the area. But, for right now looking at Oct. 13, 2017 for her surgery.
