Vegas Teacher
So for those of you who have Volvo's what electric braking systems have you bought for your trailers? On my Tundra I have a Prodigy electric braking system is a prodigy product? Is that what I am looking for on my semi?
jeffw
You want something that is air-actuated or controlled via the truck's ECU. The way the small-truck brake controllers work (inertia) make them less effective in a big/heavy truck. http://www.direclink.com/ https://www.etrailer.com/Brake-Controller/Hayes/HA100400C.html?feed=npn&gclid=Cj0KEQjw2-bHBRDEh6qk5b6yqKIBEiQAFUz29orYMYVk4arLfENldAzI_AXqESp8c7d75ee_mG6dbfUaArB28P8HAQ 2007 Volvo 780 Volvo D12D, 465hp, 1650 ft/lbs tq., ultrashift
Sinbad5024
I just purchased and installed the Direclink. Haven't used it yet, but will this weekend. Had the Prodigy but wanted something a little more suited for the truck. Since it uses so many of the trucks electrical signals, it would be better than the Prodigy. The Prodigy works on inertia and we don't have near enough weight on either of our trailers for that. 2007 Volvo VNL 780 "Vlad" 2008 Dutchmen Grand Junction 34QRL
Big5er
Yup, those are about it. Hayes or DirectLink. According to Direclinks web page the price (depending on model) is either $469 or $519. Hayes doesn't sell direct but can easily be found online, if you look aound, for $225. We bought the Direclink, it is in a growing pile of gadgets that need to be installed on the truck when we get it back from the bed build. You are right Phil, they do have a converter cable that plugs into the data port on the dash. It is $125.00. Hewhoknowslittle
If while here at the ECR, the DirectLink rep is going to try to program a unit for my 99 610 with a Cummins in it, and if so I will have a Hays for sale at a rock bottom price. Roger That WAS one of the last things I needed to gather up for my HDT, but since this last week cost me somewhere in the vicinity of 10 to 12 thousand dollars them plans went bye bye...... Depending on the price I may still be interested....
