Best Brand - electric trailer brakes

You want something that is air-actuated or controlled via the truck's ECU.

The way the small-truck brake controllers work (inertia) make them less effective in a big/heavy truck.

I just purchased and installed the Direclink. Haven't used it yet, but will this weekend. Had the Prodigy but wanted something a little more suited for the truck. Since it uses so many of the trucks electrical signals, it would be better than the Prodigy. The Prodigy works on inertia and we don't have near enough weight on either of our trailers for that.

Yup, those are about it. Hayes or DirectLink.

According to Direclinks web page the price (depending on model) is either $469 or $519.

Hayes doesn't sell direct but can easily be found online, if you look aound, for $225.

By the way 5er - how is the weather down in Houston now. We are in the upper 80's and lower 90's in Vegas.

Yeah, thats the DirectLink...I think you need a special cable(?) I dunno.

And our weather is right behind yours...pushing closer to the 90's every day.

We bought the Direclink, it is in a growing pile of gadgets that need to be installed on the truck when we get it back from the bed build.

You are right Phil, they do have a converter cable that plugs into the data port on the dash.  It is $125.00.

Just installed the direclink after our brakesmart crapped out. A little pricey but a much better controller.

If while here at the ECR, the DirectLink rep is going to try to program a unit for my 99 610 with a Cummins in it, and if so I will have a Hays for sale at a rock bottom price.

Roger

That WAS one of the last things I needed to gather up for my HDT, but since this last week cost me somewhere in the vicinity of 10 to 12 thousand dollars them plans went bye bye...... Depending on the price I may still be interested....

Let me know how that works.  If it's a plug and play, I'll be next in line.

Why do they need to program it for your truck?

Bludot is comparable in cost. Have you considered it. No wires.

Interesting question. I know a lot of us are do-it-yourselfers. But for those of us who aren't, how do Bludot and Direclink compare in terms of installation costs?

I would need to add the price of the tractor protection valve on the back of the cab, run air lines etc.  If I ever get a new bed built, all that is included, but for right now.... Hayes it is..... Until it lets out its magic smoke....
