Dutch_12078 Posted April 14, 2017 Report Share Posted April 14, 2017 The FCC has released the results of their recent channel auction, and a lot of stations have elected to take a multi-million dollar buyout to give up their licenses or move from UHF to a high or low VHF channel license. Many of those giving up their licenses completely will stay on the air with a channel sharing agreement with another licensee, moving them to one of the sub-prime "dot" channels, 2.2, 2.3, etc.That also means they will most likely drop from 1080i to 720p resolution. TheDuke Posted April 15, 2017 Report Share Posted April 15, 2017 I don't think "many" is the right word here. For instance in Mpls/St Paul area only 1 of about 50 OTA channels are going away. From a purely channels going dark view though, there will be a lot of signals no longer out there.
