Dump Stations

Recommended Posts

Stopped in the Brunswick, GA, Flying J to use dump station. It is now shut down and inoperable. Attendant in store said that it was because of campground issue???? Wonder if its all flying J'S.

Anyone heard any other dirt on the subject?

Some campground will take action if they feel that non RV park competition is cutting into their business. I know that when we managed the Wendover KOA we were talking with the casinos to try and get them to discourage RVers from spending the night in their parking lots.

Just curious George, how that that turned out with Casino abiding by the KOA's wish?   Just seriously interested as we are big Casino Campers when travelling.   So wondering why the Casino would shoot themselves in the foot income wise by doing that?

In Oregon the casino's are putting in their own RV parks and not allowing parking lot camping. We used to park at  seven feather's on are way to the coast all the time but now they don't allow it. They have a over night stay for free area and then a campground.

I'm not sure I see the problem at 7 Feathers.  If there is an area to stay for free, isn't that just a parking lot, just further away from the front doors?

...How does a campground issue impact a gas station's services?...

If the Flying J allows overnights in RVs (which many do), provides a dump station for which they charge and free freshwater fill; I could see an argument that they are running a campground without the proper zoning, required license(s), health inspections, etc. that a campground/RV park is required to have.

Sherryh, back in September/Oct 2015 we stayed at a lot of Casinos complimentary and of course frequented their businesses as a thank you (most expensive overnights we stay at LOL).   We came upon one, that insisted we had to register, wait to be escorted, line up and pay to O/N, so we asked them if they were interested in our stake monies or not and if so we wanted complimentary O/N as we'd received with many other Casinos.   They responded NO.    So we quite simply voted with our dollars and tires rotating, driving further on down the road and stayed at another complimentary one, that benefitted from our gambling monies.

Isn't it wonderful that we can make these choices :)   Unlike our exorbitant property taxes and tripling in two years house insurances and the like.

Our approach was service to their customer. Why dry-camp in a parking lot when we offered a special low price at our park. I offered this as a possible answer to the OPs request.

well it's marked off as overnight parking and yes is in the back but they use to let you stay in front parking lot far end.

Might just be that the parked RVs were limiting the amount of auto parking for other customers? I always park far out near the back of any parking lot that we spend the night in, just out of courtesy to the lot's owners.

There could be many reasons a person may not want to stay in your KOA, but free versus a "special rate" is probably a factor? A good RV park would address the problem by convincing the potential customers that the value of a spot in their park was enough to be worth the cost, rather than to attempt to force people to be customers.

A search of Sanidumps.com for the Brunswick, GA area shows several dumpstations in that area. The free ones at Rest areas and truck stops are shown to be closed with campgrounds being the only options. I also checked with the GDOT and found several interstate rest areas that were closed but most were open.

I suspect that like Walmart Camping local regulations could play a large part of this condition.

That is the reason I avoid KOA's.

I wonder what the difference is in someone spending the night in their camper at a Flying J and using the dump station, and the truckers that sleep in their trucks and throw their piss bottles out the window.  Seems the campers are a more sanitary group....

You DO realize truckers are people too? Just like RV'ers, there are the less civilized ones and then the rest of us. Please don't automatically lump us all into the conventional stereotypes. Best wishes, Jay

I'm not lumping or stereotyping, just stating what I have observed in many truck stops that I have been in.

Exit 92 Duson LA, Loves truck stop... they're are used adult diapers and bottles littering the back area of the truck parking area.  No respect for others, some truckers are not people.... just animals wasting air....

Our daughter is a truck driver and she objects to people who hate being on the road with trucks. She was once cut off by a driver to whom she yelled. "Do you want toilet paper or not?" If we want what the trucks deliver we should be kind to the drivers.

Kind of like that saying, "Farming is everybody's bread and butter." Be kind to farmers driving equipment from one field to another also. We need them.
