Hotspot on Verizon's new Unlimited Plan

Recommended Posts

  • 2 weeks later...

I was on the loyalty plan for $60 a month with 2 gb of data but no hot spot. I did some research and found an app for my phone

call FoxFi it allowed me to hot spot my phone without Verizon knowing.

I have switched to the new unlimited data and using the app

and my smart TV I have used about 100 GB of data so far and haven't noticed any throttling, getting around 25/30 Mbps. Beats my internet

that I pay $60 mo for and only get 7/9 Mbps. I'm in a rural area with limited internet choices.

Good info but I wonder if the reason you have not seen any "throttling" is due to you being in a remote area where the towers are not overly busy. Either way it's good for you.

AT&T came out with their new updated unlimited plan, available March 2nd, with a full 22GB LTE on a mobile hotspot before network optimization. We can all hope this causes Verizon to match. Time will tell.

We decided to go ahead and jump on the bandwagon and switched to the unlimited plan. Who knows what will REALLY happen but I was told that I could get the auto pary discount paying by credit card and was allowed to provide a card number to get it started, we will see. Making the switch with auto pay I was told will save us $60.29 per month. Thats a nice savings PLUS instead of not ever streaming a movie and watching much Youtube we can worry less about that kind of stuff.

Is this on Verizon? I don't see how the autopay saves you that much? I think someone may have misinformed you? The unlimited plan for multiple lines on Verizon was $110. You get a $10 discount for autopay. You don't get any discount on the line fees?

Were you already on Verizon? If not, maybe the waived some of the $30 One time activation fees if you brought in multiple lines? We switched 3 lines to Verizon and they wanted to charge us $90 ($30 x 3) just in activation fees. We were bringing in our own phones and I told them I would pay one $30/charge, that was it. I felt that was more than fair, especially since it took them less than 30mins to set us all up. Either way, that's only a one time charge.

Yes Verizon. All I know is we were paying $157.97 per month for 1 smart phone and 1 hot spot with a 30gig plan that we did the pay for 15gig and get 30 about 2 years ago. This was with a 3% paperless discount and a 5% additional discount that we agreed on with Verizon a year ago.

The new plan I was told with unlimited would be $107.68 for the same lines and the 3% paperless discount and a 10% auto pay discount (the 5% was not transferable).

ahh, looks like you may be on a single line vs multiline and you had some previous discounts that carried over. Good job!
