New Unlimited Data on Verizon

So, it is not clear to me....do I have to have an ATT cell phone as well? Or can I do this with ONLY the Home Base on my account? I currently have NO ATT devices.

We don't have any other AT&T devices either and that wasn't an issue. You actually get a phone number with the Home Base and, I gather, you can connect a "regular" wireline phone to it.

With this amount of streaming capability we might seriously consider dropping DirecTV but I will investigate the AT&T--DirecTV bundle to see if it buys us anything.

Howdy!

Joel, with that amount of data instead of DTV you may want to check into DTV Now a app used to stream DTV it cost less than DTV satellite service.

After reading about DTV Now, I've decided that it might be worth waiting a bit until they get the kinks out of it. http://www.theverge.com/2017/1/13/14257936/directv-now-errors-complaints-att

Joel, I don't subscribe to DTV Now but I am bundled with DTV on our account with AT&T. We have some of the same problems trying to stream using the DTV app. I though it was due to a weak data signal but It may not be seeing these complaints regarding DTV Now.

I learned another "issue" today with Verizon's new plan, the autopay discount only applies for debit or checking account not credit card. This actually is an issue for me, since I have traditionally used a credit card for all payments I can and currently use a credit card for my Verizon and AT&T autopays. I also used it for T-Mobile when I had it and got their "use autopay" discount. As USA Today says in their coverage of the new plan, "You can't ever read the fine print too carefully".

I switched to the Verizon Unlimited plan earlier this past week (on the first day as I recall) and I am getting the autopay discount using a credit card. There was no question and I have verified this on their web site since I made the change.

So far I am happy with the new plan. I am in a rural area right now approx 5 miles from the nearest tower and I have a bit of latency occasionally, but then this happened prior to the change from my 30gb plan. I streamed my first movie from Netflix last evening and it worked great. This was in the 7:00-9:00pm time frame and all worked well. I had Verizon start my new unlimited plan retroactive so my total data usage is now just over 30gb for this billing period. I have seen little if any impact on my experience with the new unlimited plan vs my old 30gb plan.

All is good so far.

Yeah, I think they rolled out this new plan so quickly that the IT department wasn't ready. No way does the website version match the marketing version.

I went onto VZW website as a new customer and bought a phone, added the new unlimited plan, then tried to add another device. All it offered was another cellphone, which would have pushed my single line plan to a multi-line plan. It wouldn't let me add a tablet or jetpack or smartwatch or anything else, even though VZW clearly says that you can.

The software is all that Verizon CSR's have to go by, so there is confusion about what can be done coming from them also. I think it may take a couple more weeks before we get any definitive answers on some of these issues.

If I were going to switch to this plan today from another VZW plan, I would go ahead and set up autopay on a credit card so that it would just carry over to the new plan. JMO

I stopped off at 2 separate Verizon retail locations today while tooling around and both said to get the discount for auto pay it had to be through a debit card or checking account. I think I will call Verizon tomorrow and see what they say.

I've also been getting a loyalty discount because of a screw up on there part some time back, I will see if that rolls over as well.

We pay $154 before taxes & fee's and our loyalty discount for 30gigs, 1 smart phone and our mifi. I was quoted today Unlimited plus the phone line and the mifi line for $105 (if we do the auto pay). That's a $49 per month savings if we keep our old Samsung 3 phone. But they offered a Samsung 7 for $200 out of pocket and $27 per month for 24 months and they would give us a $200 in store credit to offset the out of pocket but we are not a have to have the newest stuff couple so I'd rather enjoy the savings more than a new phone I think, at least as long as our 4 year old phone lasts. And I think we could buy a Samsung 7 cheaper just paying for it someplace.

Samsung 7 and 7 Edge

They go by Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. The "S" is important, since in the past Samsung has made some low end models that also use numbers.

Personally I would want a Google Pixel XL, no bloatware. It was such a relief to go to the Nexus 6P (mysellf) and Moto X Pure (my wife), cheaper than the Samsung Note 3s we had before and my wife and I are not updating apps we don't want, like Slacker Radio, since they are not installed.

The Pixel XL is really nice. I've just never been able to get one, so got a Note 5 instead. If Google would make the Pixel "somewhat" available I'd have a chance of buying it. I do like the note taking feature of the Note, but would go with the Pixel or equivalent next time if they have them.

Jack,

Take a look at this site: https://www.nowinstock.net/electronics/mobilephones/unlocked/googlepixel/

I was able to enter my email/text info and select them to contact me when the Pixel was in stock. It worked like a charm! They sent a text (email if you want) to me as soon as the stock was available and I was able to get the 128GB Pixel for my wife and a few weeks later I got the 128GB Pixel XL for myself. You have to be on top of it though...they don't stay in stock for very long.

If you have one of the old grandfathered Verizon unlimited plans, I don't know if I would switch - but we went from 50GB metered bandwidth to the new unlimited/22GB for a 12 line package and our price went down. It may or may not beat the "old" plans, but this is the best new deal to come down the pike in quite a while.

My new unlimited plan details:

Equipment:

Samsung Note 5

Verizon Jetpack

Unlimited Data Plan - $65.00

Line Access: $20.00 for the smart phone and also $20.00 for the Jetpack

Credit Card billing discount $10.00

Total is $95.00 plus the taxes and a couple of junk charges. It works out to $105.00'ish.

Not bad since I was paying $165.00 for a 30 gb plan.

Until all at Verizon get on the same page as to what the unlimited plan really includes we will stay with our unlimited talk and text 40 gig plan.

I didn't have the guts to ask to have the device mailed to us; the CSR was asking questions about "do you really live there?" so I decided it was safer to have my mail service forward it to me.

Just a follow up to the AT&T "shipping address" issue. My original order with the FL shipping address was canceled by the fraud dept. due to the address mismatch. I contacted an AT&T Product Specialist for more details, and I ended up putting in a new order with the device being shipped to my billing address/mail forwarder. That order was received by them today and will be forwarded to me in FL tomorrow by UPS Ground (my choice). So the plan is certainly available if your billing ZIP qualifies, but the shipping to another address is a no-no apparently. I couldn't even do a delivery redirect through FEDEX because AT&T locked out that option. I'm really looking forward to seeing how well the ZTE Z700 works once it gets here.

My AT&T ZTE Z700 device came in today and I'm all hooked up. I'm still in a S&B house and definitely not in one of the qualified areas, but I had no problems ordering it via the phone. With my order, I decided to go under contract as I figured that would be the best choice to not get cancelled if they start following up on these. I ordered Friday morning and didn't get my e-mail until Monday evening about my order and then my shipping notification first thing Tue morning. It actually shipped in 1 day to me from Memphis to Atlanta and arrived today on Tuesday.

Once I got my device plugged in and into the settings, I couldn't get it to connect to the internet even though it had good signal. When I called in, they stated I had not accepted the Terms & Conditions which I have never gotten an e-mail about, so they directed me to an automated syntem to listen to it, then press 1 to accept it. After that I had to turn off for 5 mins, and once I was back up, it was on line. My DL/UL speeds were around 15mb/s during the prime time of the evening. I've got my work PC's hooked up to this device now and I'll work only off the AT&T device for work. One it will give me a chance to see my daily work usage and I can see how it works overall. I'm going to keep my home cable internet for now for everything else.

Upgraded to the new unlimited plan yesterday. My military discount transferred over and auto pay continues. On a credit card as well with the $10 discount. All shown on my bill.

Jet pack limited to 10 gig 4g speed then slows to 3G speed.

Saved a few bucks per month over previous 24g shared data plan. Now have 30gig tethered data on two phones and jet pack combined at 4 g speed and the phones have 22g each incl the tethered Before possibly slowing on congested towers. Tethered stays at 3 g speed after 10g data is reached on each device.

After reading posts and other info, talking to CSMs a few times this last CSM seemed to be solid and deliver the most consistent info. No need to check with anyone like before.

I suppose it's a little to soon for any reports from those that have switched. I'm guessing they will start once people begin hitting the 10Gig wall to see if the throttle thing happens.

I'm waiting to hear any reports also as we have a jetpack - no phone and had reduced our data package for the winter while we were in a park that had great wifi. We have now moved and the park's wifi here we can't even connect, so need to either increase ours back up or switch to this new plan.

Early reports are that people are not being throttled yet at the 10gb level, but it's possible Verizon is still working on the process?

Is this with a phone's hotspot or a Jetpack? There are claims by some people that Jetpacks will be permitted to use 22GB/mo before getting throttled, not the 10GB max for phone hotspots.
