Chalkie
Read this on Fox News this morning. There is a new scam that gets you to say 'yes' to a question and then they have a recording of you that can be used for other purposes. My solution to this is, and always has been, that I do not answer calls from unknown numbers. If it is a legitimate call they will leave a message. http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2017/01/27/can-hear-me-scam-has-police-urging-people-to-hang-up-immediately.html

Doesn't work on landlines. Nomorobo is a totally free service that blocks telemarketers, scammers, etc., that works well on cell and VOIP phone services. It may work with some "copper" landline services depending on their level of digital sophistication. Barbaraok
There's a group out of Texas that ask for 'Shirley' or some other name and when you say no, you have a wrong number, they say 'I'm sorry, but as along as I have you on the line would you be interested in ....'. If I don't know them, it goes to voice mail, and surprise, no voice mail! If I don't know them, it goes to voice mail, and surprise, no voice mail! I get at least two calls a day from the 281 area code, which is Houston. However, there's no way to know for sure that's where the call originated, they can spoof the number to look like any number they want. Blocking a particular number has done no good, as they change it every time they call. I don't answer a call from any number not in my phone book. Thanks. Two of the three numbers that ring my cell phone are with VOIP services that do work with Nomorobo, but the basic cell service as said, does not yet work with it on my Android phone and will cost a small monthly fee when it does. Instead, I use the "Call Control" app from Kedlin to block robo and other telemarketing, scam, and even political calls from getting through to my cell number. wildmandmc
Heard part of this on local news other day. Read the article on snoop. It's tax season an the amount of scam's goes up a lot. I sometimes take a few of these calls just for the fun of it. I fig if i got them on phone they not bothering anybody or as i say one less person to get scammed. 2 years ago was getting phone call's from this number, researched it, land line from maine. verizon customer. So i sent email to there support dept. shortly after the phone calls stopped. I Guess it was a scammer in training. With that said i think if just by saying yes an getting sucked into buying something. They would have to have you say/confirm your mailing address and/or some other personal info. 2000 Itasca Horizon DP (Got Total During Irma).
